kinda funky, kinda cool...

I off handedly said, "not bad for a 40 yr old..." and my hairdresser said (loudly)... YOUR FORTY!!!??? All the hairdressers commented that I look way younger, no wrinkles, etc... Made me feel good... I do have a few wrinkles, but I consider them to be "laugh-lines with attitude"....

Not bad. I have not sewn all week. I have been hiding a friend and her kids from her ex... so after all that stress, I needed a new me... tomorrow I sew, today, I wash my dogs and clean my carpet... JOY!!! :nah:

I love the 18 with 22 years experience! I have a ‘bit’ more experience than that, but working in the very YOUNG computer industry is not much fun! Everybody in our field is so young these days, you have to stay on top of it. I have to spend $100 (about $70 US) every month to have a trim and do the roots – too many grays are coming out – all in front! Last time, instead of having streaks, I asked my hairdresser to do just one big one in my side parting at the front. She thought it was fantastic, it looks like a paler shade flower in your hair and I love it! Boy oh boy, my biggest wish is to go salt and pepper when I don’t need to work anymore! :bg:

At school today one of the teenagers said to me " Thats SO 70's" ( an 'in phrase') "Can I help it" - I replied, "I was a teenager in the 70's" Multiple sound of jaws hitting the floor . Gasps of amazement and disbelief - gee I love those kids, they are so good for my ego!

I like "I am not 40, I am $39.95 with shipping and handling"

roll on retirement!

My father does not have birthdays he has anniversaries. Last year he had the 46 anniversay of his 29th birthday.

My 7 year old asked me how old I was I told him 29 and holding. He looked at his father who was smirking and then back at me and said okay how old would you be if you let go? His father was rolling and I had to walk outof the room.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

My dh keeps telling me to grow my hair back long. But I am thinking about keeping it short. Of Course I never have time to get it cut so it always looks shaggy but I also don't have time to spend 45 minutes washing and Drying it every morning.

Hair is an issue!!!

Is the hair demon lose? I got my hair cut short too. It's been halfway down my back for 10 years. Now it barely touches my collar. When I left the salon one of the ladies there said I should have done a "before and after" photo. Hubby says that means I looked really bad before. Dear daughter's only comment was "mama, your new hairdo makes you look younger, but I liked your long hair better."
The bottom line is I am having a midlife crisis. I wanted a new haircut, a motorcyle and a different career. (I'm not going to trade in hubby for a trophy model, though). I got the haircut but can't get the cycle until I get the new career and the proper license to drive that sucker. After that...watch out!

I just got a new cut on Friday. I had longish hair that is all natural curl. It tangles and frizzes all over the place and most days it ends up in a ponytail. I'm almost 30 (ugh) and I think I'm a bit to old for the ponytail...Hubby really has a thing for long hair and always plays with mine. Well, I got it cut up to my shoulders, my hair had the same basic cut as it did 10 years ago!
I love the new cut but he really got his feelings hurt that I didn't leave it longer for him to play with.
What is up with that? Don't understand men and their 'hair thing'.
I'm happy with it, but he can't wait for it to grow out.
Just had to vent a little, not even a "honey it looks nice but I liked the longer hair better" type thing, just whiney that I actually cut it off!
:bang:
I feel like that little guy, darned if I do, and darned if I don't!

I KNOW what you mean. I had long hair until I get married and my lovely man kept sleeping on it - now it's gone! My youngest daughter had long blond hair( 16) then went mid length and brown and is getting it cut really shaort ( a la Halle Berry) for the Prom. My poor man - he just loves long hair. Other daughters hair is way down her back and she is just too cheap to get it cut so he will have one long hair in the family.
It's My Hair, OK! He likes my new cut because it is smart, as soon as I start getting shaggy I'm in trouble..

Magot, if you start getting 'shaggy' - off to the hairdresser with you! When you have short hair, it is much more expensive to keep it in shape. As I said before, I have to get mine trimmed, coloured, highlighted once a month, otherwise it looks dreadful!
I guess ALL men love long hair, but I've had mine short through this marriage and he still squirms every time I come back from the hairdressers! It does not bother me, because it is much easier to wash in the morning at 6.30am before going to work.

I got a new haircut also. It was long and white and I kept it for last school year so I could give it to Wigs for Kids. I have it quite short and got it foiled. Looks appropriate for my age (52). DH hasn't said a word about it as he likes it long. My comment to his look was "It isn't growing long again."

I have the opposite problem from most of you ladies, my DH must be a strange one because he likes short hair. I liked my hair shoulder length because of the versatility of being able to wear it up or down. I have had it short now for over 5 years. While it is cool and easy to take care of, I long for a different look sometimes. As soon as I grow it out a bit DH asks when I'm going to get it cut. He also likes it light. I had very blond hair when we married but it has grown dark over the past 20 years. I highlight it but am thinking red would be fun for something different. I'm sure it would give him a shock.

I wouldn't do red though one of the colour for the foils has a reddish hint to it. DH didn't say anything about it so it must be okay. I streaked it before we were married and he asked me if I had dunked my head in the toilet. Never did that again. I use to dye it but it had to be done constantly because of the roots turning white.
I like my hair longer and one length as I could wear it up but it did make me look old. I know that I will have to have a trim every six weeks but thats part of looking "beautiful". I am not sure I will keep up the foils as they are expensive.

I cut my hair really short quite a few years ago and I dye it a reddish blond color. I love it, although I have to keep it cut and colored about every 6 weeks. My husband loves it short too. It stay alot healthier looking and it's really easy to take care of.

Well, I don't have anyone that will pay comments on my looks (at home anyways; the office is another story) so I went for a short Sharon Stone cut and bleached it blond. My hair is naturally almost black. It's not too bad as I have blue eyes and finally got a tan so I get away with crazy things like that. My boss just came back from vacation and put his sun glasses on when he saw me; deep down, he's a good guy ... I now owe him one and he knows he'll get it.

This subject hits home... I will be the big 50 in three weeks and have been trying to decide if I want to have the below nape of neck hair chopped off for a shorter and stylish doo! I am going dark auburn from dark mousy brown. I want a complete new me especially since I have lost a total of 110 lbs. Any and all suggestions will be helpful. I want my sister to cut and style my hair ( shes very good) but I have to catch her when she is in a civil mood and not mad at her husband, otherwise I might turn up bald and I don't think my dear hubby would care for the crome dome kind of look...:bg:

Congratulations on the weight loss Annabelle, that is an awesome accomplishment. If you're Sister's not in the mood for that haircut I'd say treat yourself to a day at a salon. Between the weight loss and impending birthday I'd say you deserve it.

Yes, treat yourself to a new hair style. I got mine done with the top longish and parted to the side and then the bottom curled up. I put the side parts behind my ears. It actually stays nice all day long.
I have a hard time with hair stylists and travelled 900 kms to one I trust for this haircut. She learned how to do foils last winter and did an awesome job. Just about the same price as getting my hair dyed. She is cheaper than most places.
And how did you loose all that weight?

I can sum up my weight loss in two words. Gastric Bypass! After years of gaining and loosing and gaining and loosing weight my health was being affected so I took the plunge and had the surgery last December. I still have to work at eating properly, I just eat less. I feel healthier than I have in my whole life and have more energy and I have regained my health. Its the best gift I gave myself and my family.
The bypass is not a solution to weight loss though. People who have the surgery have to work at keeping the weight off because they can still put it back on. I have 70 more lbs to lose.

Get a really great pair of earrings! Short hair is so sassy, I love my hair short. And in the heat it's the only way to go.

I love it when guys have short hair-not quite a military cut but shorter than hippy pigtails, dreadlocks, etc. I much prefer see a neckline than a ponytail and never date a man with hair longer than mine. And bald men are sexy!

OK so the hair's gone shorter still, but now I felt like going blonder - dark dyed hair, the mags tell us, can be so aging. So I opted for a dark blonde/light brown. I am ginger. I don't mind this so much actually as it is kind of feisty, but yesterday one of the kids at school yelled at me across the playground.
"Miss Hodge, why's your hair the same colour as the leaves!"
"Just be glad it's not falling out at the same rate" came my witty reply!

The daft thing is, I dyed my hair 8 weeks ago - it's only with the change of haircut that people have noticed..curious.

How do you get past that "inbetween" stage? You know, when you're trying to grow your hair but it's at that length where it's neither one thing or another and you can't do anything with it???Have had it long/ short/ inbetween/curly/straight/dark brown(then grey!) now auburn. Any suggestions?(Apart from buy a hat!)

I am in the growing out stage. My husband asked me if I would and since he makes so few requests I thought I would humor him. But I hate it. It is everywhere and I don't know what to do. I think I maybe need to go BLOND.

What saved me when letting my hair grow (back to short now) is learning to use round brushes. Made a world of difference. Also acquired quite a few headbands and other hair accessories to keep the wild think off my face.

Well, changed the color ... again ... last night. It's a very rich copper red. I just love it. My hairdresser commented that all you could see in my face now are my eyes, they really pop out. That's one thing I have to thank my mother for: very big baby blues. Also got a little trim on the sides and the back and it looks really nice.

The disadvantage of those reddish dies is they bleed a lot. Went running this a.m. and you should see the color of my "white" towel. Thank God for bleach.

Well. mine is supposed to be dark blonde but, lets face it, it's ginger. I'm going to have to reach for the light auburn...I quite like those chunky palehighlights that go on dark hair, tried to get DD to help me with that I just ended up blonde at the back hence the dramatic change to "dark blonde." I have a feeling I'm left ginger because that is the result of the bleaching process and the actual colour has washed out. Still, I like me! So :nah: to anyone else who thinks its weird!

Mary, we only have one life to live so make it fun and GO FOR IT. Start small, highlights or small chunks and if you don't like it, I'm sure your local drugstore will sell you a bottle of your favorite colour or your hairdresser will be able to fix you up.

I didn't cut mine, but 3 weeks ago went from light brown/blond streaked to black. My daughter and I had to dye it for a play (the King and I) I teach school and it was so distracting. The kids were dumbfounded. Tomorrow we go back to our regular color. I hope it works well. The black is too dramatic for my skin coloring.

Mary, go for the colour! My own colour is dark brown but I've had it coloured rich copper gold for several years now - best thing I ever did, I love it. If you don't like it when it's done you can always change it back. I have my colour done by the hairdresser - I'm not brave enough to do it myself! I have it done every 6 - 8 weeks and yes, it is a bit expensive but I work hard, don't smoke or drink so it is my treat to myself. Be kind to yourself, Mary - you will feel years younger!

I've just gone from ginger/light auburn to rich bronze brown. I had intended it to be a couple of shades darker than the ginger but this is W-a-y- more dramatic. Bit of a shock when I looked at myself in the mirror - goes better with my clothes than the ginger did ( it was supposed to be dark blonde.....) hey ho!

I'm going to a 'goth' wedding in a few weeks , got myself a black/red burgundy bronze kimono satin top to wear with a black moleskin skirt (with fishtail) black fabric stiletto boots with chains on and a full length black coat. I feel like Morticia Addams! (My DH refers to the boots as 'bedroom wear')
love and kisses, Jan

Bedroom wear ...MMM... there's another expression for these boots but it is not proper for public earing ...

I like the idea of a theme wedding; let us know how it turns out.
