Night before last we had two refineries on both sides of us explode within 2 hours of each other. Talk about scary. In order to get out of here we had to go past one or the other. The refineries are about 1 mile apart and I'm in the middle of the two of them They evacuated some people really close to the Murphy refinery but there for a while the whole sky was like daylight at 2:00AM in the morning. I felt like a trapped rat. LOL The FBI is investigating the fires, they found a note around the refinery that said that it was going to happen and it did. They have all sorts of outside contractors who work in the plants so who knows it could have been sabatoge. Spooky I was seriously thinking about moving and now I know I'm moving up to the Northern part of Louisiana . Where all they have is cows and rolling hills and horses. LOL Then all I'll have to worry about is snakes. LOL I'm :bolt:

Gee, Susie, I am glad you are alright! But it does smack of terrorism, two of them going off like that together! They did warn us here, that terrorists will target soft targets, meaning places without security. Good luck on your move and I hope you find that Heaven and soon!

They are trying to say that the first one that exploded was caused by a defect in a part in one of the units. But I don't believe that for one minute. The police here are suppose to be guarding these plants and are getting paid $50.00 an hour to sit in their cars in front of the gates. On one occasion a friend of mine had to stop and alert one of the officers that he saw a girl running without a top on like she was running from someone and he woke up the policeman who was on duty. He said he scared the policeman In another case they parked an empty car in front of the gate. Come on what kind of safety precaustions is that!!!! I am out of here as soon as I can get my stuff together and sell what I have. I've lived here all my life but what has been happening lately in this parish, we have parishes instead of counties, I'm ready to leave an never look back.

This is the kind of stuf that goes one here. The judges gave a drug addicted mother a child who tested positive on a drug test, and told the Father who didn't test positive and is a good Father, that the mother could move away with the child. She knew someone in the courts and they couldn't do anything about the ruling. It's sickning to think what that child will turn out like with that as a Mother. And when the same refinery blow up back in 1990 the fire department chief told the judge on the stand that he didn't see the fire until her reached the plant. The sky was lit up light daylight all over the parish. My Mother fled to my brothers house 15 miles away and she could see it a good 6 miles away as they were leaving. Crooks is what they are. The police and fire departments are being paid to look the other way while these "big" companies are doing whatever they please. I know it's all over like this, not just here, but I'm sick of it.

Susie, I hope all you and yours got out safely. We had a similar scare in Royston about 10 years ago when a man made a mistake at 4 o'clock on a Friday afternoon and connected two of the wrong gas pipes together. It blew out every gas meter in Royston and gas was escaping into the houses, high pressure into the boilers and cookers went mad. Tony arrived home and he turned the meter off and it was still leaking gas into the house. You can bet we got out of there sharpish! All over town you could smell gas and they shut down the roads in and out and the railway line at the back of our house. Trying to convince people not to turn on the electricity was hard (in case of sparks) so one old lady was going to light a candle! Considering the possible devastation of having a town blow up - God looked after us pretty well and most people just needed their meters replaced. A few cookers caught fire but only a handful. So I know how scarey something like this can be. You suddenly don't care about your stuff, where is everybody?

Hey one oil storage tank blowing is one thing, but 2 or more at the same time, not likely just a coincidence in my book. Besides, the terrorists are not likely to hit very obvious, highly secure areas (airports, etc., ) again. They'll more than likely go for things like oil refineries, nuclear power plants, etc.

However, tornadoes are the most likely scenario to take me out in my area these days. I can hardly wait until DH and I retire and leave living in a large city behind. We are planning on retiring back in the hills in West Virginia (Milton and Hurricane) where we were both raised.

Patsy, I had an old quilting magazine that showed a quilter from Hurricane. She did everything by hand. Cutting quilt pieces, stitching, everything. Her quilts were eye poppers. When do you retire?

Actually, I could retire next February but I may go ahead and work until February 2005 to get my state retirement. You need 7-1/2 years to be vested in the state retirement and I have 5 years and 3 months so far. It will be just a couple hundred a month, but hey when you retire, every little bit helps.
