You have all heard about the controversy with Unique Patterns and their new scanners. These scanners were used to measure women with a red ray of light. This would give perfectly accurate measurements which would then be used to draft patterns for you.

Their software division has sold three bodyskanner units to sewing machine dealers and fabric stores in the U.S.

This was posted in our local newspaper. Unique Patterns has its main office here in Nova Scotia. Unique Patterns is the world's largest custom sewing pattern company and the custom sewing division for McCall's and Butterick.

I always thought that their goal was to provide patterns drafted from the skanner. Now I see it is to sell skanners. The bodyskanner is also expected to hit retail clothing stores in the next few years.

We had a rep from them come to our local sewing store with the scanner. to show how it worked. We all paid 60 dollars to be scanned and are still waiting for our patterns. I was supposed to get a pants and top pattern. It has not arrived. They say it is still in the works. It has been a year.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Aimee, you gotta call them and either yell and scream for the service your paid for or get your money back. That is not acceptable business.

The store that held the show has given everybody store credit in the amount we paid. He is a great guy and in the process of suing on our behalf.

Thier excuse was that they had problems and they where trying to fix it.

The sewing store is a great place an older couple they have thier quirks. He would rather give you 10 percent off then deal with the tax ID number.

I first saw these scanners in about 98, when I visited the Clotech exhibition here in the UK.
They really do sound fantastic, it's like we're going back to the days of custom made clothing. You never know, we might come completely full-circle and lose ready-to-wear altogether!
That's if it ever works... Aimee, I hope you get your pattern eventually. That sounds like a very frustrating situation.
