did a real bad thing this week and was wondering why I was angry about it...he left a tube of lip balm in his pocket (he claimed he lost it.) and it got washed and dried INTO the clothes. He ruined a WHOLE load of laundry. (and yes I tried all my methods of getting the stuff out and nothing worked in 4 tries and I've managed to get INK out of clothes before) I just stood and looked at him, I didn't say a word...he never apologized (nothing is ever his fault. )but said I could go get some new clothes...well I said that was REAL big of him, since I wasn't the one who ruined MY clothes in the first place. (last year he ruined a BRAND NEW never worn sweater by putting it in the dryer, when I told him to leave my clothes alone, that I would wash them.) He thinks I'm never supposed to be angry about things like this...excuse me !?!?!?!?!?

Hi Chrysantha,

Ooo Sounds like your husband is in big trouble. Being one myself and doing the same kind of things, I feel for him :nc:

Most guys are pretty useless around the house but we do try. Don't be too hard on him.

I'm sure we will be seeing more of an eye to eye conversation here about this but I wanted to put a guys perspecitve in this also.

Isn't it frustrating!!! My daughter has left lip balm in her pocket, too. It's fine in the washer, but once it hits the dryer

My advice is to buy some really great clothes!! Some fabric, too.

I've given up here. If it can't be tossed in an overloaded cold water wash, dumped in a hot dryer and let it sit for a day or two in the dryer before it is removed and tossed into a basket, I make sure it doesn't enter the laundry room without me.
Mostly my husband does the laundry. He enjoys it. It makes him feel like he is contributing. I wish he felt that way about hand washing dishes (he does turn the machine on) or cleaning the tolet but he likes laundry and I let him have it. I also let him have the cat box.

Hubby and I have an agreement. I won't work on his truck (not that I've ever tried) and he won't do the laundry. Hubby decided he would do laundry one time when I was in the hospital. :whacky: He washed my light colored delicates with a RED shop rag. Yes, I had a lot of strange colored pink clothes.

My dh is very cautious when doing laundry these days. Last winter, I laid an expensive navy blue sweater on top of the dryer to be washed in the mini basket on delicate . He was doing jeans, shirts, etc. and picked up my sweater and tossed it in with the every day dark clothes. Needless to say, it cost him again for the purchase of a new navy sweater and since then he steers away from picking up anything that is not actually in the basket with the jeans, etc. He's very good about helping me around the house when he has the time. However, I can't seem to train him to open the door to the dishwasher instead of dropping his dirty dishes, glasses and silverware in the sink.

Maybe its because I raised two boys and for the last 2 years my Mom was in assisted care residence and we did her laundry, but I always check pockets before I wash clothes and anyone in my house does also.. I taught the boys to do this , when I taught them how to do laundry when they were kids..It doesn't take but a couple of minutes. I check my own pockets, of course, also. Most of the time now I only do my own laundry.. DS does his own and now that Mom has passed on, we no longer have to check for tissues in the pockets..I almost forgot the most important thing .. The rule in this house is, money found in the pockets goes to person doing laundry.. (iron clad rule) This makes finding all pockets empty almost a sure thing..(Nowadays) in the beginning I found a tidy sum...

I have to admit to being the tissue in the pocket, oops everything is pink, we like gray bras , don't we? kind of laundrywoman. But since no one else will do it, they can't complain.
I was nearly dead when I pinked the England shirts - managed to ressurect them before they found out fortunately.

I washed my hubby's wallet once when he left it in his jean's pocket. His paycheck was still inside it. Boy was he mad. I told him it was his own fault. I have to do everyone's laundry and I don't feel like I should have to check pockets or turn things right side out. Who wants to turn a stinky sock right side out??
Here things usually go in the washer the way I found them in the hamper. Hubby has a bad habit of slipping off button up shirts over his head with them still buttoned. When he does that, they get washed that way and returned to the closet still buttoned up.
If things don't make it to the hamper, they don't get washed. Usually.:bluewink: Sometimes I give in when I can't look at the towels in the bathroom floor anymore, and pick them up. But I'm not happy about it and they usually find that out.

As for money found in the washer, I usually consider that my tip.:bg: Unless of course it's a large amount that belongs to one of the kids.

Chrys,
Be sure and buy yourself something really nice.:bluesmile

A friend of mine once found a $100 bill in her washer. Hubby looked all over for his "beer money" but she didn't tell him where it was and bought clothes for the kids instead. Served him right, he was a jerk.

When DH and I first were married he never hit the hamper. He learned the hard way that I wasn't going to pick up after him. He ran out of underwear and had to run it to the laundramat himself.

This trick never fails:

The next time you need minor work done on your car (oil needs changing, tire needs repair, etc), say this to the Hub:

"Don't worry hon, I'm sure I can fix whatever the problem is, if you'll just tell me where the hammer is located..."

(That simple statement has never failed me yet):bg:

By the way, would wax paper and a warm iron help take the waxy lip balm off the fabric?
