I HAVE A JANOME COMPITERIZED MACHINE BUT IT DOES NOT EMBROIDER. I HAVE BEEN USING A MAGNETIC SEAM GIDE. SOMEONE HAS TOLD ME THAT ONE SHOULD NEVER USE THESE ON A COMPUTERIZED MACHINE. IS THIS TRUE?

That is correct. You are never supposed to put a magnet close to anything electronic or computerized. A child put a magnet up to a TV screen once in my home and that TV screen had a dead spot in the picture forever after..A repairman reduced the size of it, but the only way to get rid of it was a new picture tube.. It was not our main set , so we just tolerated it.. But, you better believe I watch magnets in my house..and nobody takes one anywhere near my Janome..

Thanks so much for your reply. I even called the place where I purchased my machine and they said some say yes and some say no. One would think they should have had the answer, especially since they repair machines there. I purchase my machine guide there so why didn't they tell me this. oh well. I will miss my guide but hopefully I can make a tape guide that works almost as well. I was also wondering why they don't put this warning in the machine book. Thanks again

Hi Liah, welcome to Sew Whats New.:bluesmile

You are absolutely right. They should warn about magnets with every machine. But then, the magnet company wouldn't make much money, now would they. Apparently I have heard that magnets shouldn't be anywhere near a computer either.

Never put a magnetic near a computer. You will loose information. All information on disks and harddrives and memory (CDs and DVD are different) is stored magnetically if you put a magnet near the drive or disk it can corupt your information. The same is true with any sewing machine that has a memory or where the stitchs are stored digitally.
