I'm hoping to move my sewing business into manufacturing and was wondering if any of you had dealt with manufacturers in the United States or overseas. I would really love to email you some questions about things operate and some basics about what I can expect. Please email me at <email address removed for privacy>

I would really appreciate your comments/opinions!

Thanks

I have only been in business for myself for a year but from what I saw happening in the manufacturing business while I was in school and with my own research, I would not recommend going into foreign manufactuing at this time. Research the culture, area, economy and geographics thoroughly and must importantly, is write a business plan with ALL your goals even the ridiculous ones that others laugh at. Good luck.

Hi Raspsgirl,

You can get a free [print] subscription to Apparel Magazine [formerly, Bobbin] online. The past year has had a shift toward international sewing/ design businesses, and this would be an excellent resource for you in your current desures to expand.

Hey Nedra, how's the Saturday Market been treating you?

Did you know that Saturday Market has their own site on the internet? The information should be in your welcome packet. I don't what it would involve or if there are costs involved (probably a percentage) for selling merchandise throu them.

Actually, I was thinking about you the other day when I passed a Made in Oregon shop and thought why not try contacting someone at the Made in Oregon stores in all the malls? There are quite a few listings at various locations. The Christmas season is fast approaching and they might be open to view your merchandise. Good luck.
