I think I'd better get the treadle Singer oiled up in case we get hit next time.
My tiny village was one of the few places around here where the lights didn't even dim but now I know why I've kept that dear old machine.
Who all was in the dark out there?

I came back from vacation on Thursday, and had a connection in JFK. Missed the blackout by 3 hours!

Hi,

I was in the black out, I posted this in Home and Health ,
I live in Burlington Ontario, we got power on around 10 P.M. On my way home it was black it was errie, no stop lights on , I have to admit people were good handling them like a four way stops
I was almost out of gas!! enough to get home from work , on my way back to work I had to go to five Gas station's to get Gas!!!My gas light was on for awhile , I was sure I was going to run out before I got back to work, There were line ups like I never seen before, I felt like I was in a nightmare,LOL .
Bank card's were not working , you needed cash!!! I will never let my tank be low on gas again !!! I will stash some money away in my wallet,!!! I will keep a flash light in my car,!!! and I will allway's have extra water in my home!!! What an eye opener that was, I'm on my kid's to do the same, oh how we take things for granted, I hope things get better soon and stay that way , were still getting brown out's , that may go on for day's, I'm so glad to be home today and Know all my family are well. God I feel grateful!!!

I live on the West Coast and was not affected by this blackout. However, I did survive a blackout during a lightening storm at the beach in December 2002 that was awesome! Fortunately, I didn't have to drive anywhere. Luckily, I had surge protection for my computer, which was on at the time.

So, my daughter and I and all the animals (the dogs were spooked) made a fire in the fireplace, roasted marshmellows and thanked God for all the blessings we had in the world and prayed for the safe return of others not as fortunate as us. We told stories and talked to the dogs, played with the cats, lit candles on the hearth and laughed through the worst part of the storm.

We don't have twisters and such here (just occasional volcanic action and rare earth tremors) but I think I would be scared witless if a tornado or hurricane came upon us. I don't know how you folks in Oklahoma and thereabouts face such scary events!

The power came on 2 days later, but we knew it wouldn't last forever and looked upon this as a challenge to our faith.
