If you are searching for your ancestors, have started a family tree or have hints for those that do, please post them here.

Many people search for long lost relatives with little or no results, it would be nice if we could help someone find a loved one. :bluesmile

My almost 15yo son loves geneaology. He's always asked the older members of our families questions about things, and did a school project on geneaology last year.
He spent alot of time at the courthouse searching through marraige licsenses, death certificates, census records, etc.
He found ancestry charts that someone else (very distant relative) had recorded and really got the ball rolling.

He just said to tell you to try searching immigration records.
And also familysearch.com or (or possibly .org ?)

He's traced my husband's family back over 700 years.

it is .org :bluesmile

My son got the name and e-mail of an elderly lady that had started a chart on some of DH's family, from the lady that works in the archives office at the courthouse here. My son called her and she invited him to her house. We wound up staying and talking to her for 6 hours. She has shelves and shelves of notebooks full of family charts that she has done. My son thought she was fascinating, and she thought he was.:bluewink: He even got to help her fill in some missing names of our closer relatives. He also told her some stories that his great great aunt (nearly 98) told him, and she wrote it all down.
She also told him he should search graveyard records.

Yes, I have exhausted research on Family Search, RootsWeb, Ancestery, etc. I actually have found a lot of ancestors back to the 1700's but it's the still surviving, if there are any, that I cannot find. The Willett's stayed in North Collins N.Y. for over a hundred years but the one surviving daughter Essie (others died in childhood, so sad) seemed to disappear. She likely married and moved away and I cannot find her. I have actually found surviving cousins, several times removed, but they are related to my gr. gr. grandfather's brothers. Nice to know and they have filled in a lot of information for me but I would like to complete my family tree. Oh well, I'll keep looking. I almost have hubby convinced to take me to North Collins to see if I can do a little research on my own but it's a struggle. He couldn't care less about genealogy.
Wish me luck and thanks for suggestions.:Canada:

I have done a lot of research on both sides of dad's family tree. I started out with a family tree done in 1945 by my aunts and their cousin. It was a great start. As one of the family lines is from New Brunswick, I was able to do a lot of research on them on the internet. It filled in a lot of holes. I also went to GenWeb and left messages on any forums I could. It paid off as I was able to get info on the Dean side of dad's family. It still as holes but I can get some of them filled with some letters I need to write.
Please be careful with Family Search. Some people upload wrong information which can be harmful to your searches. It has happened in my dad's family tree. People thought they were being helpful and I had to straighten out the mess.
I have done a bit on my mom's side of the family - a cousin is suppose to be doing that. I have her mother's side of the family done - letters and emails from family members filled in a lot of holes. Her dad's side of the family is quite well done but the missing pieces may be hard to find. McKenize is a common name.
I will post when I have some more thoughts. I have done a lot with it.

Yes, you do have to be careful of your sources. I had one person write to me telling me a Samuel Willett was my gr.gr.gr. grandfather and another one that said Micajah Willett was. Took me awhile to figure out which one was right. They both had sons named William so that's what caused the problem. It has been so interesting researching my mother's family though but so very frustrating when you hit a brick wall.

I haven't tackled my mother's mother's family yet which will be very difficult as she was from the Six Nation Indian reserve and I've been told they did not keep very good records in the 1800's.

I shall keep plugging away though. I'm not a quitter.

I have a brickwall also on my dad's side. We can trace the family back to him but no farther. Rumor has he used another name for a while. I am going to get a cousin to do some research for me on him (death certificate). We do a lot better with his wife - we can go back a couple more generations with her.
I have not had problems with names in our family but locations. Some one put one of my great uncles and his wife as born in Manitoba when they were born in New Brunswick. I really am fussy and check things out carefully.
