I know one thing I really appreciate with my sewing room is the ceramic tile floor. Makes cleanup ten times easier than before. Dust bunnies get vacuumed and pins and needles can be seen BEFORE they enter a foot.

I saw the same preview last night. The name of the show is "Mission: Organization" and they go in and reorganize big messes. Some of the shows I've seen I would be totally humiliated if I were some of those people.

The sewing room they showed last night they will be reorganizing looks similar to mine, especially the closet. My biggest problem is that I don't want to get rid of anything anymore. I want to hang onto every scrap of fabric , batting, etc. and it's beginning to overwhelm my sewing room. So, I think I'm going to do what I did last year and take all of my bags of garment and quilting fabric scraps to the senior citizens center in my area again. Then I will have more room in my closet and be able to put away some of the stuff sitting on my treadle machine and on the floor. Geez, the place is becoming a rat's nest instead of my nest"

Thanx for the info! My calendar is marked too. I will tape it just to have it part of my little sewing library. I am always looking for new ideas.

Plrlegal....isn't that the truth! I have seen a few in my day...working home health was an eye opener to say the least! Some of the people have no shame what so ever. And I am not talking about the sick ones...but the ones who live with them who are healthy...just very lazy.

Hey all, I'm new here, but some of you may recognize my name from some other sewing boards!

I was greatly disappointed in the 'makeover'. This room would not work for serious sewing and/or designing at all IMHO. The color is all wrong, the storage is wrong, nothing about the room works well except the counter and the cutting table!

my thoughts exactly and who would hide their stash in a closet that you can't see for inspiration, i did like the garbage can for the bolts of interfacing. and also the counter for the machines, but it just wasn't right in my book, my opion on it, i actually forgot about it today glad you joined us sewserious and thanks for the reminder

I did not see the show but I did read the articals on HGTV website and it had some before and after pics. I like the frame like wall hanging for the finished clothing. framing the art.

One thing I can tell you from the before pics .... My room is spotless compared to them. who could work in that clutter but to thier defense. Hubby can come in my room and "straigten it up" and I will feel totally lost. Maybe they have thier own organization. Mine makes no sense to hubby. and a gal pal says that the room makes her uneasy and she just want to straighten it. I am at home like a pair of old house slippers.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

The way I see it, a sewing room is a sewer's domaine. If I had one, no hubby, friend or anybody but me would be allowed to move anything in "my" domaine. Gee, isn't anything sacred anymore :bluewink:

Geesh! Anything that was done was an improvement on that sewing room they made over. I mean they had that huge gorgeous cutting table and had it shoved against a wall and stacked with so much junk you had no idea how nice it was until it was uncovered. Now come on girls, I know we all have messy sewing rooms/spaces at times but you gotta admit that was pretty bad with upteen hundred spools of serger and regular thread tangled together like a spider web and she said she didn't use it she just bought new each time because she didn't want to go to the trouble of untangling it all. Once it was untangled and sorted, they pretty much had every color of serger thread made. Also, some of that fabric they picked up looked like it had seen it's better days simply because it had been stepped on in the floor and everything else.

I would love to have a room with that much space with all the counter room and the big table in the center of the room for cutting. However, if I had that much room for a big cutting table, I think I'd have it built with storage underneath it to maximize space. Also, I have an ironing board like the one they were showing, except mine hangs over the outside of the closet door in my room and it's very handy and out of the way when it's not in use.

Also, my dh does not come in my room and straighten or rearrange anything. He knows what severe things could happen to him should he ever decide to do so. As he tells our dog -- "When momma's unhappy, we're all unhappy." LOL

They didnt have anything on the web site about the thread Hopefully they will re air it.

On the hubby comming in I have to let him in. My sewing room is 4 ft by 10 ft area of our bed room and he has to pass my cutting table to take a shower. The boys knew I have my sights on thier room. I tell them You not in school after 18 I get a sewing room.

Hubby also lives by the saying if mom not happy no one is happy.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

The elimination of the mess was an improvement, but IMHO that is about as far as it went!

I have nowhere near that much space for sewing and the area I do have is in the family room and I share that space with the computer. I cannot leave it messy. I do leave out work in progress and my machines, but everything is neat and orderly, not thrown all over the floor with scraps lying here and there and everywhere!

I have more storage in my small space than these ladies ended up with in their large room. The space they have is pretty, but just not practical. The best thing they did was move the cutting table out to the middle of the room (that is where I will use mine when I get it, although I will have to put it away at the end of the day!) and made the counter for the machines. The rolling carts are a good idea also, but they probably needed more of them. The notions in the hat boxes are pretty, but nothing was sorted out and I don't want to dig through zippers to find elastic, etc.

The rest of it is inefficient and not practical and I imagine that it will look terrible very shortly because it has no efficiency and thus no motivation to keep it organized.

lol ...You think there should be a recall on that show? I didn't like that room at all! They didn't seem to spend very much money, as they have on other rooms. Maybe the people have to pay everything but the decorators. Does anyone know?:bg: :bg: :bg:

Question ??
Would any of you trust that girl to design anything for you..?? I have a messy sewing room, but that was a total disaster... How can she call herself a designer.. and her mother also... I could not believe that mess when I saw it.. And all that wasted thread...She has no concept of what money means... Those pro designers did not seem to know anything about what a sewing room is all about, either.. They might do better in a LR or DR or even a BR..

If anyone is interested, here is a link to my photo album that shows my 'sewing area' in the family room. Please excuse the mess in the photos. I am keeping my 2-year-old granddaughter this weekend and she has the room a mess. Also, I have not yet made the curtains for the windows and door. What is on the windows are some different ideas/materials I am trying out. Neither one of these was the winner! I have to get them made this week though!

maps,
We'll see how neat it stays. We literally finished it on Saturday and I had just loaded all my stuff in there when I took the pictures!
