I saw this show on TV recently where a young brother and sister were out camping with their folks. The sibs went on a hike together as they were coming back, the girl lost her footing, starting to slide down a minor dirt hill, which uncovered an active hive of bees. They started stinging her all over her body and she was too panic stricken to move when her brother called out to het to jump into the nearby creek. So, he runs overto her and drags her into the creek. He instructed her that on the count of 3, they were going to go hold hands and go under the water and hold their breaths for as long as they could. When they resurfaced, there were thousands of dead bees floating on the surface. When fellow hikers came upon the children, they raced the girl back to her parents at their campsite. Her mother was a nurse and called the paramedics on her cell phone. The phone wasn't able to pick up any signal so she rushed to the nearest grocery store to the camp ground. The paramedics arrived and took over from there. The girl was later found to be allergic to bee stings, which no one had a reason to know yet. She was stung over 100 times. They asked the boy how he knew to do this and he told them he learned in a science class that when flying insects get their wings wet, they can no longer fly (wonder why bugs fly into your back yard pools and don't fly out?). This saved the girls life andthe parents were eternally grateful to the boy's quick thinking. And thank God he retained that bit of trivia from science class! |
