:nc: When my brother and his wife bought a house I offered to make and change the curtains. I never thought they would ever ask...:bang:

Now they have gone and bought the fabric, I am not even sure if they bought enough because they never had me measure the windows. They are buying me a machine, because mine eats fabric whenever it is near the thing! :bluewink: They are ready for me to begin, but...

I HAVE NO CULE, as my 8 year old says, what I am doing. I have tried looking for patterns on line, how to cut, and more, but I have not found what I am looking for... my grandmother walking me throug this :bg:
If I only would have known that this WAS something I needed to learn!

Is there anyone out there who can help me get started :nc:

I learned how to quilt on my old machine, but know that the teacher always said to me," Crooked lines can always be quilted out. No one will ever be able to tell. " :nervous:

Thanks for any help or advice in advance,
Christy
:bolt: I just love these!

Hi welcome to the board. I have only made curtains from the patterns by simplicity they are called sewing for dummies. I loved them and the curtains turned out great. I also refferenced the book Sews for the Home by Sandra Betzina. It is a great read for beginners.

Hey if you run out of fabric remeber it is not your fault. I have clients like that and I tell them if they dont get the right amount then it is not my fault.

You will do fine and we are all going to be here to help you if you have and troubles,
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Thank you so much for your words of encourgment.

I have never followed a pattern, being that a quilt it is kind of free range, are they easy to follow?

I am going to look at the fabric this weekend, maybe even try and pin, cut or whatever I do first!

Thanks again :bluewink:

hi Christy, welcome to the boards, the first thing i'd do is always wash and dry the fabric, in the dryer to preshrink, you don't want the finished legnth to be 81 now, then have them wash them and turn out to be 75!!! then probably you'll have to take a iron to it... as for the pattern... they are pretty self explanatory, just read the directions and read them again if you have to. i always keep the directions very near by when i sewing anything from a pattern, if you get stuck, read them again just go step by step, you'll be suprised how fast curtains go, and if you get a new machine congrats, get some scraps out and practice a little first, new machines aren't like our old ones, good luck, let us know if you run into any problems someone is always ready to help :bg: before you know it you won't even use a pattern, you'll be using one of your quilt tops for a valence!!! :bg:
