I'm making a coat with welt pockets and they're not working out as good as I would like. Does anyone have any tips on making welt pockets? |

Try a few first on scraps of the fabric you are going to use before sewing the ones for your garment. They take practise.

I've been making welt pockets and bound buttonholes for lots of years, though infrequently. Each time I decide to use the technique on a garment, I'll make at least one practice one to get myself in the groove again. You ought to try Judy Barlup's techniques for both bound buttonholes and welt pockets! They turn out the most professional I've ever used - and I've used several techniques! You can find her books/tapes at www.uniquetechniques.com if we are allowed to give plugs here! By the way - NAYY - just one satisfied student! Ann C

Best tip is to keep a good steam iron on hand and when you clip befor you turn to get no bunches is to clip really close the the threads in the corners but no the threads.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Thanks for all the tips. I guess I'll just have to practice. I love the look of a welt pocket, I just don't make them often enough to get very good. Ann, I tried the link but it wouldn't work for me. |
