My daughter is trying to get a Halloween Party idea going. Invites, food and decorations seem fairly obvious. This is a group of 7-8 year old girls. So I'm trying to think of activities that might be good. If we have the party the Saturday before Halloween, we could make craft items. Something fairly quick and easy. I was thinking decorating picture frames in Halloween motifs of some sort. Maybe we could turn off the lights and tell scary stories. What other activities could we use or what sources could we check out for ideas? And suggestions welcome... |

We had a treasure hunt one year. It was a lot of fun. I arranged it so that there were several colour-coded groups of two or three. Each group was given a clue which led to the location of the next clue, which led to the next, etc. Each clue was colour-coded as well, so that if they happened upon a clue that was not their 'team' colour, they had to leave it alone. There was a little treat with each clue (wrapped in ziploc bags). The last clue was a piece of the 'treasure map'. That brought all the kids together so they could tape the map together and go find the treasure. The treasure was the treat bags/party favours signifying the end of the party. My treasure box was a plastic bin, which was hidden in the laundry room.
Take care,

Do you rembmber the horror stories that they would tell but you had to stick your hand in something horrible through a curtain. Like the mummies Eyes was a bowl of olives, or the intestines of the zombie was speghetti, or how about a piece of liver was the heart... It was gross cause you could not see it but it felt like the real thing. There is always fun with a pineta (spelling) another game that my 13 yr old played at a recent game was pin the tail on the donky you could make it pin the smile on the Jack o Latern. Bobbin for apples Dont forget the smoking cauldran of punch, the monster finger sandwiches, the dirt pudding with the worms, the green jelly with the bugs in it. Fishing over a curtain and get gooffy gifts from the $1 store. My 7 yr old went to a party recently where they had all the bad party things. The cheap toys that dont last til they get home. They had the best time not like the party they went to where the mother bought the prizes rivaled the gifts.... The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

I loved those unidentified textures. Like the chocolate pudding you were told was dog or cat poop! |

My daughter had a Halloween party last year that was a big hit. Their favorite thing was telling ghost stories with all the lights out. The one telling the story held a flashlight underneath their face. They screamed and giggled for an hour. Of course when hubby jumped out and said BOO, they really screamed. They all liked bobbing for apples. We had a costume contest. Played a game where you have 2 kids stand up and the other kids wrap them around and around in toilet paper til they look like a mummy. Then you see who can break free first. They loved that. We had a big pumpkin that they tried to throw a hula hoop over from a certain distance. If you ring it, you win a prize. You could also make a large cardboard jack-o-lantern and cut out the eyes, nose, and mouth and let them throw bean bags through them. Their very favorite thing was the kitty litter cake. They talked about it at school for a week. Mary gave me a link for it last Halloween. Maybe she still has it. If not, it's just basically a cake cut, tossed with pudding, and poured into a *new* kitty litter pan. You sprinkle the top with crushed vanilla cream cookies. Reserve about 1/4 cup and add green food coloring to it and add it to the top to look like the scent granules in litter. Then shape tootsie rolls (use your imagination ) and add to the top. It helped to microwave them 3 or 4 seconds. Have fun. |

Almost forgot, use a *new* pooper scooper to serve the cake. We also made "monster hands" to float in the punch bowl. Just freeze ice in rubber gloves. Of course the punch was vampire blood and another one was pumpkin juice. |

Wow! You really put yourself out on that party! Those are some really good ideas, especially with the hula hoops. I'd also like to try a crafting theme, based on Halloween. Maybe picture frames with wooden accessoried like pumpkins, etc. Although, they'd be just as happy trying to play tag in the dark. They seem to be into scardy-cat testing. See who in the group is still afraid of the dark. Would this be considered a right-of-passage from little girls to preteeens? oy! We have a large back yard (I really have to hire the handiman to do some serious pooper-scrooper work out there for me). And the dogs couldn't be out there. But I'd like to set up some jack-o-lanterns for lighting to the back deck. But since this party will likely be 2-4PM Saturday, no darkness. I'm still working on this. However, I can't wait til my daughter gets home from school to share these ideas with her. I'm off to work now. E. |

To make it more safe and scary get all of them flashlights for tag in the dark.

The new issue of Country Home magazine had some great Halloween party stuff in it. My favorite was using chocolate chip cookies and chocolate waffle cones to make edible "witch's hats." Real cute. My daughter likes to play a game called flashlight hide and seek. It's exactly what it sounds like. Everyone hide, turn out the lights and give "It" a flashlight. They love it. Sounds like a fun party! Shelly Moon
