Has anyone made these?

If so how did you like the pattern, are they comfortable, etc. etc.

I seen them made on a sewing show on T V... they look so easy to make... look great and comfortable... add a nice simple loose jacket makes a nice outfit.

My 3 daughters and I all wore those back in 1970. They are very comfortable and if made in the right fabric and full enough, they look like a long skirt.

These were also featured in that book "Patternles Fashions" (which I don't see on the shelf right now). You don't need any pattern, but if you want to assure a well fitted crotch, start with a well fitted pants pattern you already have.

Put the front and back pattern pieces together at the crotchpoint/inseam keeping the grainline straight, extend both the "side seams" as wide as needed to reach half way around your body plus the amount of ease you want. the crotch seam is the only seam, and when finished, the front piece reaches to your center back and the back piece reaches to your center front (plus some ease, of course).

Finish the waist to your own taste. Ours had elastic in the front portion and fastened in the back with hook and eye. Then the back portion which wraps around to the front had stiff belting in the casing and a more decorative hook fastener. The ones in Clotilde's catalog appear to just tie front and back.

I made my sister-in-law a couple of pairs of these pants and she loves them. I used a Burda pattern. Simplicity also has a pattern.

Bren,
1. Rockingham is about 1 & 1/2 Hrs from Charlotte.. on Hwy 74.. I'm not sure about the mileage.. We are west of there.. Right at the S C line.. If you're coming here, send me a PM and I'll send you my phone #..
2. now about the Island Pants... it just takes a little more material than a standard pair of pants.. front and back center parts are the same as any other pants.. The Crotch seam (center front to center back is the only seam) .. except inner leg seam. You lay the pattern out and allow the sides enough extra to come to the opposite of what they are.. In other words back comes around to the front and front goes around to the back..
a. Sew center front seam .
b. Sew center back seam.
c. Sew inner leg seam.
d. Attach waistband to front and be sure it reaches to middle of back because you have to fasten it there.. I use hook and eye made for waistbands..
d. Attach waistband to back and make sure it reaches to center front.. You can attach ties or another Hook and Eye.. (your choice..
e. Hem bottom of legs.
f. Hem sides of front and back..

Now they are finished.. to wear them place them betwen your legs . Take front waist extension around to back of your waist and hook it. Then bring back pieces around to the front and either tie or hook the extensions.. They were so comfortable, I loved wearing them.. We usually made them out of light or medium fabrics.. Too much weight would not be good .. And something that drapes nicely is good.. You don't want anything too stiff..
My Mom always wore hers with a Halter top when she was entertaining in the summertime..
I hope these instructions make sense..
