Hi,

I want to make a purse out of imitation leather (I bought a lot when it was on sale, and now I'm wondering what to do with it all :nc: ). The pattern says to use fusible fleece, but can you fuse onto that kind of fabric?

I wouldn't do that if I were you. I made 2 purses out of upholstery fabric that looked like crushed velvet and I used something similar to horehair canvas. To fuse fusible fleece, your iron has to be set on the highest setting and I don't think the imitation leather would like that at all.

Where would I find the horsehair canvas? Would it be with the interfacings?

How much did you get? There's a lot you could do with that fabric.

Yes, the horsehair canvas should be with the sew in interfacings. If not, ask a sales clerk if they carry it.

I probably have about 2 - 3 meters of it. I'd love to hear your ideas.

I used low-temp fusible interfacing on pleather that I recovered kitchen chairs with and had no problems. I used a press cloth and did it slowly and carefully. The fused on interfacing definitely keeps that type of fabric from stretching and the knit backing from wearing off. Experiment on a small piece.

Purses and tote bags are great with this fabric. Also: make-up bags, skirt and matching vest, cushion covers, winter hats that can be trimmed with faux fur. Fall/Spring jackets in this fabric seems to be the big thing for the last couple of years. And, as Zhuie just mentioned, chair covers are a great idea, I didn't think about that one.

I made pants for my niece at Xmas last year that I trimmed with faux fur and made the matching vest in faux fur trimmed with the leather. She looked sooooooooo cute.

I did make my daughter pants with the fabric and they were cute, but she found them too hot.
