Hello all:
DD wants to be Hermione from the Harry Potter series for Halloween. This little friend of Harry's wears a black cape with a Hogwarts school applique on the front. I've been out scouring the fabric and discount shops, thinking I could find this applique and just sew it on. No such luck yet. Anyone seen one of these things? I've heard you can get the CD to make one on an embroidery machine, but I don't have an embroidery machine yet.
By the way, I paid waaaayyyy to much to get that red and gold Griffendorf scarf she wears. I don't know how to knit (ouch).
Of course, I'll post a photo of the Hermione lookalike-post Halloween.

Have you checked JoAnn Fabrics and WalMart? I've seen Harry Potter fabrics at both, but not appliques.

Ebay has a couple of pages of Harry Potter fabric:

Perhaps if you could get a picture of the crest, you could make a fabric transfer using a colour printer. I'm sure that you could probably fit several motifs on one page. Then you would have lots of appliques.
Take care,

Hmmm. Here is a thought. Look for a fabric with a picture of the crest on it and make your own applique with a fusible -- like WonderUnder. If you cannot find it on some fabric, look in a discount store at childrens' sheets.

Good luck.

Here is a website that carries Harry Potter fabrics to show you what I mean... and it has a cute Harry Potter quilt. http://www.hickoryhillquilts.com/harry.htm

Thanks for the ideas everyone. You all are fabulous!
The fabric with the crests is perfect. I'll just make my own applique. Now, it's off to the fabric store to find a yard or two.

Went to JoAnn Fabric Saturday and found a pillow panel with the crest that I need on it.
Now, I'm in the market for a gray tweedy skirt and sweater vest. Can whip up a skirt if I need to. Went out looking for sweater vest tonight. Found them in several colors and sizes, except a girls gray size 14 of course. If all the pieces of this costume ever come together, it will be an absolute miracle.
But, I'm a mom-I'm in the miracle business

Finished the Hermione costume Friday. It looks fabulous. Making an applique out of cotton fabric was the perfect solution to the problem with the ape. She looks fabulous. I'll send a photo to the gallery post Halloween.
Thanks for the suggestions.
