Hi, I have looked at quite a few threads to see if my question has already been answered, but I didn't see it anywhere. Hoping you ladies can help me out!! This discussion board is awesome!!! I too am trying to teach myself to sew, and finding that it is somewhat complicating at times. My question is: I just made a dress for my daughter and I am wanting to sew some Maribou at the bottom hem...............How do I go about this??? Thanks in advance to your responses!! Cindie CS

hi cindie, i've never used marabou trim (but i love it, doesn't it look fantastic?! so glam!) but i think what people generally do is sew it on by hand... actually i think you have to remove it for washing purposes too... |

If you are talking about that feathery looking trim, My Mom used to have it on her Dance Competition dresses a lot.. We Just tacked it on by hand with matching thread, because it had to be removed for the clothing to be laundered or dry cleaned..Mom called it , ' the flirty trim'...

Picture this.. the hemline and the trim as a long straight line.. then the needle and thread as winding around and around about one inch apart in a continuous circular motion... That is the way I stitched it...I was careful to catch the trim by the middle part so that the overall effect was still light and airy looking and you couldn't see any parts that looked flattened by stitches.. Hope this helps..I just re-read this.. Maybe this will clarify.. Carry your thread behind dress tail then take a stitch every inch or so, around the trim, then carry thread another inch.. That way, It can be removed easily, but it is attached firmly..
