Has anyone used the Unique Pattern service where they custom make a pattern for you according to your measurements? I have a hard time fitting my daughter who is 6 feet tall and thought this might be a solution. Thanks.

Hi Whoshe22, welcome to Sew Whats New. :bluesmile

Unique Patterns provides this service. I have heard both good and bad about their pattern drafting. Some of the girls here will be sure to help you.

I did it last fall. It has been a large help having all of those measurements. The only drawback you may find is that your daughter is still growing.

It took forever to get the pattern and the measurements back -- even longer than they said. I don't know if they are still backed up. It took over two months! Which really bugged me because when it finally came in it was Christmas, when I was too busy to use it.

I have not ordered that many of their patterns -- as they are quite expensive. However, you get a personalized list of all of your measurements, and that sure helps to figure out patterns when you are sewing. When you do order a pattern, you only get one item. Even if that pattern would normally have a shirt, a vest, and pants, you only get the specific item ordered -- like the pants. So that adds to the cost.

I feel guilty that I have not made good enough use of my investment yet -- never enough time! I am not sure if I would recommend it or not. You need to look at your individual circumstances.

I didn't realize that you only got one item if you ordered a pattern. They are advertising the Butterick and McCalls patterns now and I just assumed that if you ordered the pattern, you'd get the whole thing.

I've been trying to find a good pants pattern for years so
I tried this service about two years ago and was very disappointed with the result. I had someone else take all my measurements, followed the video to the nth degree and when my pants pattern came back, it made a pair of pants that was at least two sizes too big. Very expensive, very poor results.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'd rather make a duct-tape double for her instead. I know that works!

Because bodies are always changeing by the time you get the pattern or if you dont it most likly will not fit.

You might want to try pattern software.

for the price of one of the tank top patterns from Unique you can get a pettern demo from Living soft and make more then one pattern with many many different choices for style. Also the pattern software that is the same price you can use on all the people in the family. from your hubby to the little doll that is in desperate need of clothes.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Is Living Soft the name of the company or just the name of the Pattern making software?
