I saw this saying in a newsletter I receive thought I'd share.... Women do not have hot flashes, they just experience power surges! |

I used that phrase to my family doctor when I first started into the "big M" (as hubby calls it) and the doctor just about fell off the chair laughing.
I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

With the power surges I have been experiencing lately, I should have been able to supply all of Halifax during the hurricane. Does anyone know how to make yourself more comfortable during these "surges"? Other than wearing little clothing I am just about ready to blow a fuse. MaryW

Mary, Head out to your local health food store and ask for a product containing "wild yam". I like the brand called Inner Peace but there are several and they all seem to work. It is a cream you rub on and it really helps with power surges and other "Big M" symptons...at least it did with me. I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

Mary, I agree with Mamahoogie, only I use a cream called Progensa 20 its in a pump. I find it easier because the pump gives the correct dosage and the product kepts its potency in its airtight container. I also have a great book for you to read... I have to go home and check the title as I am having a senior moment and can't remember the name. It is by a hormone expert who recommends natural treatments for menopause and premenopausal women. It worked for me. I used to wake up with horrible night sweats. Now I sleep the night through without power surges. Lori |

Let me see, something to help with power surges. I've tried a glass of ice between the breasts, it can be messy, but it does help but you need to watch out for frost bite. Fans-mine run 24/7. DH has learned to dress warmly for bed. Vitamins, lots of them. B complex helps, anything with Soy helps too. I too have heard about the yam product. I've also used the neck "thingy" that you chill in your fridge. So far the only thing that has really given me relief is hormones. I've tried several different types, right now I'm on the patch and seem to be doing better with it. Fewer episodes and not as severe. My suggestion is go to a health store and ask them what they have available. There are lots of products out there over the counter that can be effective you just need to find them and try.

You're right about the soy products too sewingrandma. I am a vegetarian and I eat a lot of soy products - Morningstar Farms is my favorite. We (hubby is not a vegetarian but he loves all my veggie food so is vegetarian except when we eat out ) anyway, we go over to Michigan to Meijers to buy it because they don't sell it in Canada. We also drink chocolate Soy Milk - So Good brand is the best. I went off the HRT over a year ago and my family doctor is so surprised that I have "warm" power surgers only, and not very often....and I haven't even bothered to go back on the wild yam cream. I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

POWER SURGES - that's a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll have to remember that!!!!!!!! My dh is dressing warmly for bed too, the window HAS to be open all night long. Unless it's summer, when the a/c is on full blast. The cream is wonderful. "onward through the fog"

Mary, I highly recommend reading WHAT YOUR DOCTOR MAY NOT TELL YOU ABOUT MENOPAUSE by Dr. John R. Lee &Virginia Hopkins. I actually started with his book on premenopause and then this. I even bought copies for my friends last Christmas. Took my power surges away after reading and 1 trip to the health food store, I went to the doctor several times and found no relief! I think his books are something everyone should read. Lori |

Hi, sorry, I know this has nothing do with hot flashes, but I enjoy reading all the posts and I have seen several people refer to DH. Who/What is DH? Thanks. |
