Is anyone game for another Stash Challenge? I love these events. It's like having friends gather in a sewing circle in my home!

What do you think, Mary? Can we have one? If so, how about having it start on October 11 and ending December 20? That gives everyone plenty of time to log in holiday sewing.

Wishing everyone a great day,
Dawn

I would like to have one also.

I have a suggestion, though...I think that each participant should send a fq and $.25(to cover postage), before being entered, to a designated person(Mary, if she is willing). I guess you could call it a registration fee. That way, the winner would receive the complete prize 'package'. Sad to say, I think there were a couple of people who did not fulfil their obligation last time. :bluesad:

The 'prizeholder/registrar' wouldn't also have to keep count. Someone else could do that.

I hope my comments haven't put a damper on this for anyone. These challenges are really a lot of fun, and if we could get one started soon, we can include all of our fall and holiday sewing! :bg:
Take care,
Donna

Could you clarify for us newbies what's a 'Stash Challenge'. Thanks.

Hi Babybyamy!

A Stash Challenge is where participants sew items only using the material in their fabric stash (no buying new fabric). You can sew anything (ex: clothing, quilts, totebags, pincushions ... just to name a few possibilities). The person who sews the most items using their Stash Fabrics wins the contest. In the past, the winner has won a fat quarter from each participant. It's great fun!

Enjoy a wonderful day,
Dawn

The 'challenge' is to make as many things as you can from your existing stash. If it goes ahead, the specific rules will be posted.

Normally, challengers post about their progress, and share ideas, and the participant who makes the most number of things is the winner.

We also like to have a person(preferably non-participant) to keep track of the count and post a tally from time to time. This helps to keep interest up, and adds to the fun.

Each participant sends the winner a fat quarter.

Hint: If you have any projects in mind for the next little while, maybe you should get the fabric now, so it will be part of your stash when/if this goes ahead! :bg: :bg: :bluewink:

Thanks Dawn!

I just went through the search and found yall's last Stash Challenge to get more info. Congratulations by the way, I saw your page with the pictures of what you have made and the great fq you recieved. So projects have to be COMPLETELY of stash materials, no new materials combined with some sort of stash?

Count me in. I want to participate.:bg:

You have to use stash in every project. It doesn't have to be completely stash fabric...but mostly.

It sounds like fun but I don't know if I will be able to participate. I spend most of my time helping my Dad.
I thought it might be a good idea to have the prize be something other than fabric since we are trying to use up & some of us don't do much piece work. How about some type of notion. thread, needles, etc. then we could use it with our fabric.

Would old clothing be considered as stash? I ask because a lot of times I use clothes that I can't wear or my husband can't wear and make things out of them for my children. So I'm wondering if that would be considered stash?

I personally don't see why not. After all, it is fabric, it is going to be cut up and sewn, and it is most likely kept with your stash of fabrics to be used...eventually.

Others may feel differently...I guess that is something that would have to be included in the rules.

No, let's just say fabric for this time.

But you know, that would be a super challenge for another time, using an old garment to make something new.

I need someone to keep tally of the actual things made. I have a quilting book I can donate as a prize, but not everyone quilts. Any suggestions if a fat quarter is not the prize?

Ah gee, Mary...I guess that means no projects like curtains and pillowcases from sheets, no placemats or coasters from tablecloths, no jackets from blankets, and definitely no denim projects from old jeans. boohoo. :bg:

Hi, all,
I haven't participated in any stash challenges yet, so I'd like the opportunity, if it goes!

P.S- How about a spool of decorative thread, or something that can be wound around a spool for embellishments?

Hi Mary! I'm so excited about the Stash Challenge. As to prizes ... hmmmm ... the quilting book sounds great! But I quilt and others don't so ....

1. Fat quarter or 1/2 yard of fabric (easy to mail).

2. Craft pattern of some kind (also easy to mail).

3. A spool of thread or other sewing notion.

4. Send trimmeries (ribbon, beads, buttons, etc.)

5. Sew a small gift (pincushion, potholder, totebag, etc.)

Anyone have any other ideas?

My sewing machine is cleaned and ready to roar!

Enjoy your day,
Dawn

I asked earlier about using old clothing as part of your stash, well now I have another question :bg: Let's say I use some old pants to make a bag and use fabric from my stash for the strap, pockets, decorations, etc. Will that be considered?

Next question! If this is a go, when is it going to start?

I was one of the people who sent their fq VERY LATE, but I did eventually get it done. I would be glad to send it before we started with the $.25 postage, once it is over it is easy to slip my mind. I would like to be in the new one too!

Mary,

Can the tally keeper participate in the challenge? I will gladly keep tally as long as I can still participate.

Sounds like everyone is raring to go ... we just need Mary's official "okay" and a date to start. Mary, are we going to do the fat quarter's as a prize? We even have a volunteer tally keeper!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

Magot was the winner of the charity challenge. She has received her prize by now.

I will keep tally of the projects finished just to keep everything perfectly above board and everyone smiling.

Chilogod, you can make whatever you want, but you MUST use mostly stash fabrics.

You are all on your honour to post honestly.

I am going to announce this challenge in our newsletter today, so get your sewing machines turned on. It starts today.

The prize for the winner is a book and I believe it is called Sewing for the Home. Let me double check on that, but in any event, there will be a prize donated. I will post as soon as I can confirm the title.

The challenge starts now and runs until Dec. 1/03
That makes the challenge running about 6 weeks.
Good luck to everyone.

Good luck to everyone.
