I was wondering if any of you, who have used the EZ winder can tell me it is possible to use the bobbins on my regular machine.
I have loads of serger thread having bought it wholesale years ago, I don't have enough time to do the same amount of sewing that I used to do when I was in the business.
However I still use my regular machine for odd things and have run our of regular size spools of thread, I'd like to ideally divide up my serger thread and use on my regular machine.
Thanks

Hi Biltong!

I don't have an EZ Winder, but I just received an Elna 686 Serger for an early birthday present (which I am VERY excited about) and my dealer recommended I get one. Can anyone also reply about wheither they use them and if I should get one. Thanks!

I'm not sure that I understand your question, but I will try to answer.

If the bobbin will fit on your thread spool, then it should work.

You can also buy a special 'cone thread' holder which can be placed near your sewing machine(usually behind). You can put the serger thread on this, and run the thread directly to your machine, instead of using the spool holder on your machine.

I think there is also an adapter that you can buy to put on the vertical spool holder of your machine. Then the serger thread will fit on the spool.

I often put serger thread on bobbins and use them on my machine in place of regular spools of thread.

Hope this helps.
Take care,
Donna

Thanks so much
I never thought of that.
My machine makes such small bobbins (it's a Brother) that I am forever refilling. I will look into the adapter thingy though. My machine holds the spool sideways but I'll go to the machine shop where I got it and see what I can get.
Thanks again

I have the EZ Winder and it is not bobbins. It is a system of plastic spools that you can wind serger thread onto for use on your serger and/or machine. The EZ Winder is an adapter for your bobbin winder that the plastic spools that come with it fit on top of . If you want to wind serger thread onto your bobbin, just set the cone of thread behind your machine and thread it through the bobbin winder.
I ordered my EZ Winder from Nancy's Notions. I also ordered an extra package of spools (either 4 or 6). I have been keeping my machine thread spools and have been filling them with my serger thread for use on my serger. I have not had any success with either my Singer or my Pfaff in using the serger thread in the bobbin or the needle. Neither machine likes it.
