I was planning to get the Viking Iris sewing machine for Christmas. To the owners of the Iris, are you happy with the machines? Would you recommend it to someone who sews and wants to branch into embriodery?

From what I have read on this website, I think that I will also need an amazing box so that I can get designs from the internet and somehow put it onto the Iris. Did I get this right? Does anyone have a site where the box is the cheapest?

I would appreciate any advice you have to offer regarding the Iris sewing machine!

Thanks!

I am very pleased with my Iris. It sews beautifully. I was a little disappointed with the amount of designs that originally came with them machine so I would recommend getting some kind of card writer.

I thought it was fairly easy to learn how to use. It has an idiot beep that tells you when something is wrong( I have heard it a lot.)

Thanks for the info on the idiot beep! I will probably hear that a lot as well! I have a 40 year old Kenmore that I have always used, so this is going to be a big change for me!

I'll start saving for the card writer!

I just got my Iris. I love it! see my post about it in the general sewing talk folder...

After the initial desgin bumbling attempt, it's been smooth sailing. So easy to use. Like Sherri, I was extremely dissapointed at the lack of designs it came with. The actual design card from Viking are very expensive, $125-$200 from what I've seen.

I'm getting a r/w box and I thought I was getting it this weekend, but after anyalizing my checkbook it's a no go. :bluesad: So my machine is sitting mostly un-used because I don't have any designs availabe to embroider.

And btw, figure out when your going to actually get the machine and sigh up for a class now that follows immeditalty after you purchase it. I've had my machine for two weeks and the soonest class I could get was next week...frustrating
