Please help me - I am very frustrated. I need some advise. My stitches on top look great. The stitches underneath are even however - it is very easy to pull the thread out. I know my machine is not balanced but can not figure out why. In the case that the top stitches look good which tension is usually off. I tried testing the top tension by tugging on the thread with the foot down (I get some resistance). I tried testing the bottom by holding the bobbin by the thread (like a spider web) and feel tension there. The underside looks like a straight thread ( thread from bottom) with short (top thread) intersecting horizontally. The thread from the top is much shorter length than the top thread.

Thanks, Cindy

Hi Cindy and welcome to Sew-Whats-New. I could be wrong, but it sounds like your top tension needs to be tightened some more. Also, check to be sure the bobbin thread is unwinding off the bobbin in the right direction (either clockwise or counter-clockwise). Your machine manual will have a diagram and instructions for this. Also, what brand of machine do you have?
