I just wrote a story for a local paper about the local museums that, for the next couple months, will have exhibits that all feature quilts.
The art museum will have its annual quilt show. Here they have really innovative modern quilts and wearable art.
The history museum will feature Amish quilts from local and other Amish communities.
The Harriet Tubman home park is showing Underground Railroad quilts (used to signal runaway slaves when the coast was clear and the next stop), quilts made by Africans, African Americans, Latinos and Native Americans.
An old chapel will have quilts by local artists.
I guess I'll be making the cultural rounds for the holidays.
And there will be a wearable art fashion show at a quaint inn near here. It's a fund raising event with a $50 fee to get in but my editor said write up a proposal and he'll get me a ticket to cover it with a press pass.

My sister is an avid quilter and has had her quilts in many shows in the Hillsboro and Portland areas. Her weekly quilters group gets together at each other's homes, on a rotating basis, and the comraderie and discussions they have are cathartic for evyone there. I think she gets a precarious thrill out of putting little scraps of fabric together, like a collage, into an allover design she's come up with. She pieces while watching TV with her husband. She's given quilts as gifts to her grandchildren and daughter. She recently gave my mother a beautiful quilt of purples and greens for her bed. The colors and design were gorgeous!

She could tell you some stories about quilt shows!

Personally, I love to look at all quilts, knowing I won't likely ever make one myself. Although, I could see making a miniature quilt wall hanging. When I visit my sister, she has various quilt squares in stages of completion hanging on her wall. Art in the form of knitting, quilting, painting can all be hung on the wall, like artwork. And it's very soothing to see your hard work on display.

Sounds like you will be very busy in the next month or so.:bluewink:

Dorothy you are really tempting me to come up for these events. Whereabouts in NY are they? I am from NYC originally and have relatives there and in Westchester and Orange counties and in the Woodstock area.

I'm way upstate, a good five hours from the city. The museums are in the small city of Auburn.

I would sell my children to see the Harriet Tubman show, that would be so interesting.

The wearable art show would be worth a look too, some of that stuff is out of this world, fantasy clothing.
