Has anyone ever made "u" shaped sleeves for a ren fair or lotr elf costume? The costume website I saw the dress on says the long (like touching the ground when arms are hanging down) sleeves wrap around the arm in a u shape....wait, I will just post a link to the page so maybe it will be easier to interprept that my description... http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Elf/Arwen/Requiem/RequiemMaking.htm

or just the copy and paste version:http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Elf/Arwen/Requiem/RequiemMaking.htm

scroll down the page to "lower sleeve details"

this probably is really simple, but the only things i've ever sewn (in my recent memory) were a couple of dollhouse pillows, which are very uneven and lumpy in the stitching. Also I need it to be very easy to understand and thorough because my grandmother will be helping me and she's...well a bit impatient. ;) thanks for enduring this long post and for any help I receive.

Fabulous dress, but wouldn't life be easier if you had a pattern, I would feel a bit daunted about trying this - have you looked in Simplicity under costumes - I've used 9891 with the long flowing sleeves and it came out a treat. The sleeves on your description seem remakable complicated for a beginner.

I'm not really making the whole dress I'm attaching the sleeves to a velvet dress from the Goodwill.I'll add silver braid/trim to the collar, make a long sleeve with the braid on it diagonally right over the existing sleeve. At least, I thought I would do that...lol.My grandmother isn't a beginning sewer, she just wouldn't be able to understand this explaination anymore than me, especially because she has probably never done this kind of dress...not doubting my granma's capability I just don't want to waste her time with something we can't figure out, she is very busy at the VFW.i would have to get the fabric, get my mother to take me to her house when she was available, and then show her a pattern and we could hopefully get it done that day, maybe in two days...in time for All Hallows' Eve...|in a spooky way says| Ooooo...

I've looked at it and gone ooooooo the dresses are wonderful but can't imagine how it will go together. I sent the site to my daughters who now "want one, make for me!" which as you say reads complex. Perhaps it won't be when you put it together. If you are just attaching sleeves rather than making the whole dress it could still happen.
