A beginner. Sewing a coat for my daughter. Can't make heads or tails of the Burda instructions for the welt pockets. Any help out there? |

As a beginner you've already challenged yourself quite a lot by tackling a coat. Just handling the heavy fabric is difficult. Welt pockets require some very exacting seaming and clipping which is even harder on a thick fabric. My suggestion is pass on them for now and substitute patch pockets. With 40 years of sewing experience I took a class on making these and still haven't had the courage to risk a garment's outcome by incorporating them. Still practicing on scraps until I can get them consistent. |

Maybe this will help you a bit. http://sew-whats-new.com/marty/welt_pockets.shtml Be sure to try this method out on some scraps from the coat first before you dive into the real thing. Good luck. MaryW

Bound buttonholes are very tricky to do, and if you don't do it all the time one forgets the proceedure,Im in the middle of doing some on my blouse placket, the buttons are small and its very fiddley too,I had to do a few practice runs before proceeding on the garment.Good luck with your project there.
If at first you don't suceed, try-try again!
