Here is a good question. Anyone want to tackle it. My husband has two t-shirts that are too close to his neck. Is there any way to remove the ribbed neck facing and move it about an inch out? Thanks! Nancy Pommerening MaryW

If I remember correctly from my short time as a men's clothing alterations assistant. I think that was one alteration we couldn't do, because you trim away all the excess fabric there when you are making the garment. I think it would be time to buy him some new shirts that fit his neck and alter the rest of the shirt to fit him. I am almost certain that is how we did it, but I may misremeber as it was 12 years ago.

OK nevermind. I just reread the original post. I thought she was talking about dress shirts not T-shirts. Don't know where my mind is sometimes .

You'd have to replace the ribbing, which would be too short to sew back on the bigger opening. |

I do a similar thing all the time, with t-shirts for myself.. I have a "thing" about anything too close on my neck, so when I get a new t-shirt or sweat shirt and it is snug around my neck, I cut the old ribbing off and make a new one and serge it on and boy, does it feel better.. ! ! I had a great top that I loved and the ribbing on the neck and wrists got real dingy, so I replaced them and Now, my 5 year old shirt is like new again...
