I have been watching on TV how the fires in southern California have ravaged the countryside. If you are in California, please stay safe. We are thinking about you.

Has anyone heard from Adva? Is anyone else from CA, I know Aimee is.

Thanks I am in mid California but my family is in Lake arrowhead and they have been told to evacuate. they are out but the fire is licking at the edges.

There is rumor that three of the four were started by fire bugs.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

I am! The local news has been saying that this has been the worst in anyone's memory. There have been bad fire years before, but not with this many separate fires going. The poor firefighters are stretched so far and are working so hard. It's got to be a tough enough job without having to deal with mountainous terrain too.

I am in Simi Valley and most of the area is safe, well away from danger. We are all cooped up in the house to stay out of the smoke and falling ash. Schools are closed. The fire here is in an area right now though that is difficult to get to, terrain wise, winding mountain passes going through, lots of ranches and animals so I am praying that these folks evacuated last night, before the fire crossed over to them this morning.

The wind has been dying down though and once our usual air flow gets re-established, we will get air from the ocean bringing in some humidity which is the only moisture we'll get for another few months. Rainy season isn't likely to start till about January.

Lots of folks are needing our prayers out there so if we get our prayer chain going, it can only help.

It was posted on the Internet news that the initial fire was ignited by a lost hunter who set off a signal flare. He was arrested but it doesnt say whether he will be charged or not. The fireline is about 30 miles long and has already reached the San Diego suburbs.

First British Columbia gets hard hit by forest fires and now California. Our thoughts are with everyone there and hope they get them under control soon. I dread fire!

Yup, now BC has flooding and California has fires. If you guys could just swap some of the moisture for dry.

Mary, We'd sure love to swap some of your moisture although we don't have a lot of heat to send you in return. The Santa Ana winds have gone thankfully, and taken our heat with them. It will be a welcome change to the firefighters. At least with the wind gone, there won't be as much risk of the fire jumping to new places with the embers which is what started a number of these newer fires. Now they have only mountainous terrain to deal with and that is certainly bad enough. They have only our short daylight hours that they can make airdrops with water or fire retardant.

Betina, you're right about that San Diego fire , I just read that it was started in three different places and they merged. One of those was started by a hunters signal.

However, that is just one of (according to reports I heard on the news last night) 10 fires going on right now. They are stretched out all over. I heard reports of 4 of them being started by arson, but who knows.

Aimee, Have you heard from your family in Lake Arrowhead? I know that is one of the evacuation areas. Were they able to get out safely?

Keep the prayers going for those who've lost what they had. They're not all millionaire's homes that are being lost, but the folks who do the real work, the gardening, cleaning, etc. The workers at the resorts they speak of on the news. Those are the ones that my heart pours out for because it will be harder for them to get back on their feet.

All for now,
Jill

I have just spent three of the scariest days of my life. I live in the path of the Paridise Fire in San Diego County. I was awoken by a friend with a call at 2am Sunday. She lives a mile away, her home was full of smoke and fire was two doors down. As I sat up to answer the phone I smelled the smoke in my home too. I hope none of you have to experience that horror of watching flames creeping towards your home from two sides and packing you belongings getting ready to evacuate at a moments notice. My kids and I are safe and our home made it. We have friends and neighbors who weren't so lucky. My husband is a firefighter and had to go through the trama of knowing his own home was in danger while he was protecting someone else's. I don't think I'll ever look at life the same way! Family and friends are the only important things!

I'm so glad you and your family are ok. Our church is praying for all of you that in the path of those fires. I hope they catch the maniacs that started those fires. How absolutely crazy or evil do you have to be to do something like that?

My father got all his Military memrobilia out of there in go shape. Some one had broken in and stole alot of his Electronic stuff. like TV and phones. He got out with out the stuff and my hubby and BIL went back to get all his Military stuff. Uniforms from past wars medals, saber and more.

Alot of people at the front lines after seeing the composite think it is a Firefighter that was fired because of the cutbacks and the fire houses that got shut down. From what we here he was telling others that if a large fire broke out the fire companies would not be able to handle it and the whole state would go up in flames.

Sorry that your Dad lost some of his stuff Aimee, it seems crises like these bring out the best and worst in people. Good he got the things that were important to him though. Was anything fire damaged or just burgled?

He lost the cabin a day later. He was more worried about his memrobilia.

The cabin was his Man Base. No women allowed. With 8 daughters and a controlling wife he no place to have his Man Things. This was it. His home from Home. It was older then me. Ancient.

He is a man in need of a Shed. An allotment. A place to be alone. It's going to be a while before you can find one again.
