Beautiful! A combination of stump work and cross stitch.

Nor me, I've tried stumpwork, blackwork and hardanger and would like to see some ideas.

Interesting, I've not seen modern stumpwork before - only on ecclesiatical embroidery - ever had a fancy to do goldwork Mary? I've only done two stumpwork pieces, strange to tell, some flowers and a classic smiling sun. The sun was intended for the top of a box but having finished the sewing it becomes a UFo and I move on to the next thing. I have a pile of finished embroideries...

So do I Magot. I finished them but never framed them. Seems a bit of a waste doesn't it. They are all hiding in drawers around the house.

No, I have never seen goldwork, is it gold thread embroidery?

Not exactly - it involves sewing down gold plate, pearls and couching over metal spun threads and so on, still using stumpwork techniques but using metal! http://www.berlinembroidery.com/rsngoldworkkits.htm will give you an idea of the finished items. There are some fabulous modern interpretaions of goldwork ( a 17th century technique).
