I'm making my dd pair of pajamas (KS3016) out of a medium weight fleece. The Kwik Sew directions specify that on a standard sewing machine to use "an overlock stitch, this stitch sews and overcasts in one step." My machine (Singer 4830) has an overedge stitch and a overedge stretch stitch. My confusion is with this stitch. The bulk of my fabric is on the left of the needle, so when sewing the seams I want the overcast part of the stitch to go to the right. On my machine, the overcast part of the stitch goes to the left. This doesn't make sense to me. My question is how do I get the overcast part of the stitch to go to the right? I cannot find anything in my manual about reversing the stitch. :nc:

There is no other way to do it except put the fabric to the right and then overcast. I had an ancient Kenmore machine that was like that.

However, you don't really need to finish the edges of fleece because it does not ravel. I find that type of finish too hard and uncomfortable against my skin anyway. I am assuming you are using a ¼" seam allowance. Just use a narrow zig-zag to sew the seams and forget about finishing the edges.

Thanks Melanie! I just realized I had the wrong pattern selection on my machine. I had it on selection A instead of D so now the overcast part of the stitch is going to the right. I can't beleive I overlooked that. :whacky:
