Check out the contest that was run by Simplicity. http://www.simplicity.com/s5index.htm I love the idea of a basic pattern sewn by all the women and such creative differences in the end. I want to do something like this on our site. After Christmas, maybe. What do you girls think. I just love the bottom trellis jacket and tank top. It's beautiful. MaryW

Absolutely awesome. Not a difficult feat, it just takes some imagination and creativity. I wanna do this so bad! Not a contest, just a "show and tell" type of event. Who would be interested? MaryW

Now that really is a challenge! Can we see what the pattern will be before we decide? I'd like to give it a go but wonder about my creativity!

Yes, we will all agree on a basic pattern first. Nothing too difficult or off the wall. Magot, I can't imagine you don't have something you could knit and add as a whimsical detail. Something really out of the ordinary. MaryW

yes, we will all use the same pattern. This is not a competition, just a "show and tell" If you aren't creative with embellishing, try using different fabrics or just make yourself something you like. No pressure here. I want everyone to enjoy themselves with this. If we can't all find the exact same pattern, we will get one that is close. Simplicity sounds fine to me. MaryW

Dorothy, it doesn't have to be exactly the same pattern. Something similar would be fine. I think we all just want to show a little something of what we enjoy doing.

Maybe we could use the pattern the other ladies used? It covers sizes 10 - 28.(it looks easy for us beginners, too!)

Ok girls, after Christmas, sometime in the new year. Sheesh, that is so close, it doesn't seem possible. In the meantime, try to find a pattern in your stash that resembles the one I suggested. http://www.simplicity.com/s2c.htm #6029 MaryW

Are we making the complete outfit? If so: the pants or the skirt? Wrap top or Plain? Can we make it for someone else? I'm not sure how I'll look in this style. I could wear it once upon a time. Siwian |

Good questions from siwian . I may have to use pieces from several different patterns to replicate this look, and I prefer a skirt over pants. Debby |

Interesting you suggested simplicity 6029 Mary W, I made the wrap top and pants for my daughter, making bias binding instead of bought bias, for the top. Very attractive pattern, pants are nice also but have to make smaller, so far this pattern is a winner if the sizing is right. |

Make what pleases and suits you best. This is show and tell, not a contest. I just want to see as many different outfits made as there are interested people. If you want something totally different, then fine, go for it. MaryW

I couldn't do 6029 as the sizing is just too small and that wrap with my belly!!. How about the contest is set up like this: Sew a three piece ensemble, including jacket, pants or skirt and top/shell. All three pieces must be worn together for the contest entry. In all truth, I would sew from the same pattern as the Simplicity contest, #5687. |

Simplicity pattern #5687 is the pattern drafted for the American Sewing Guild's 25th anniversary. It goes up to size 28W. It's quick and easy to sew. However, may need tweaking in sleeves and shoulders for some folks. Ask me how I know this. Looks great in a variety of fabrics. One can express their creativity in many ways. Happy Stitching! It takes one moment to change a life.
