Hello!

Can anyone reccommend a line of washable decorator fabrics to use for slipcoers? Waverly says all theirs have to be dry cleaned.
Thanks!

I made my slip covers out of Denim. Which is very washable.

I believe most all decorator fabrics are dry clean only. If you want to be able to wash it. You're goign to have to wash it first because there will be a lot of shrinkage and them make sure you apply sizing back into the fabric after every washing.

Lots of dec fabric is probably washable if you're willing for it to change appearance such as losing its polished surface. You also may be sacrificing any protectants such as Scotchguard which have been applied. You'd have to pre-shrink which is beastly with the yardage needed.

There are other heavyweight washable fabrics besides denim if you look around the store. One consideration is that dyes in deco fabrics are a lot more fade-resistant than dyes for clothing. Another possibility would be to use sheets or bedspreads as yardage as these are meant to take the wear and tear and are definitely washable. They yield extra yardage because of their width. Often even with the widths in dec fabric it's hard to efficiently use it because of the size pieces using up most of the width so you can't lay pieces out side by side.

It's Home Dec Fabric. It's meant for home items like chairs covers, couch covers, curtains, etc. It's usually 54" wide. It's not usually meant for apparel items since it's a heavier weight and is Dry Clean only. Most fabric stores will have a "Home Decorator" Section with nothing but this kind of fabric in it on really big rolls.
