My mom and I are makind my sisters wedding dress. It callls for an invisible zipper. We have the zipper foot and since I have never put in an invisible zipper and its been years since my mom has we bought one and some cheap satin to play with. The question is could we hand set the zipper insted of using the invisible zipper foot? We plan on hand setting all the Bridesmaids zippers and the flowergrils zipper and the zipper in my mom's dress. My mom never machine sets zippers any more and I have never set one straight so we are both a little afraid of this invisible zipper and machine setting it on the good satin where we will only get one chance to do it. Any help anyone has about zippers on fine fabric will be great and especially if someone knows if we can hand set the invisible zipper Thanks!! |

I think it helps but I will have to show my mom. Sha and I have an agreement She puts in the zippers and I put in the button holes lol. Though Mom says that I am going to learn to hand set a zipper. From reading that I dont know if you can hand set an invisible zipper or not? Thanks |

I just finished hand sewing an invisible zipper in my dd's wedding gown. I followed the instructions in the link that was posted; instead of machine stitching, I hand stitched. Did it work-well, yes and no. Yes, there is a zipper in the wedding gown, but hand stitching cannot get as close to the zip as the machine foot can. If I had the time to "do-over", I would have used a traditional zipper with a lapped application. It really does look fine, it's just not as "invisible" as I would have liked it to be. Does it matter-absolutely not-----it will be covered by her hair and veil so no one will see it. Wedding is this weekend, and the dress is beautiful (so the bride says). |

The invisible zipper is just that-- invisible from the right side of the garment... It does not even show the little dots, like a hand picked zipper does.. You just have to read very carefully and do exactly as it says.. I love the way it looks.. I was scared of them for years and my sister forced me to use one on her 'Mother of the bride' outfit I made for her.. It was great... less time and way less grief and worry about my skills...I will use this in the future every time I have to install a zipper..(suitable places, I mean.) Not like heavy jackets, etc...

I used an invisible zipper in my wedding dress...easy peasy. Please look at the instructions at this website and machine set it, it will look great. I hope you can see the back of my dress. It also had buttons (but no buttonholes)...who would have guessed that there is a zip in there? dress back (http://images.ofoto.com/photos593/1/63/31/94/97/3/397943163103_0_SM.jpg) Marie -------------------------
