Has anyone seen Elf yet. It is supposed to become a classic Christmas movie.

Cat in the Hat, it is so big. For crying out loud, they have cereal with the picture on it already. That guy will only make a few gazillion dollars on this.

I did get to see Matrix Revolutions recently ( or whatever the third one is called) It was OK but that was about all for me. DH loved it but then it is a gun movie. I had a much happier time sitting at home watching "Bodyguard" again.

My daughter and I went to see this movie last week. Very funny!
Comical and the humor was at times for adults who remember
way back when...There's a great scene in a department store where a Santa impersonator meets Elf. Very funny!

I'm not much of a cat-in-the-hat fan but the movie looks good. I wish that Jim Carrey would have played the Cat-in-the-hat, instead. It would be so much better. He did such a great job in
The Grinch!

That's it! I've got the morning off work, they've all left the house ( it's 7:30). It's a hot bath and hit the video cabinet for some R and R!
I would ordinarily do my weekly shop but our local supermarket had a powercut in the week, the generators kicked in and 2 days later burnt out 'cos nobody turned them off....all the fridge and freezer food is gone and we no longer have a butcher or greengrocer in Royston ( popn 1600)...so we'll just live out of the cupboard for a few days while I knit!

I saw Radio a couple of weeks ago. The movie is very simple, no special effects. It's a real story. Cuba Gooding Jr. (I think that's his name ... you know ... SHOW ME THE MONEYYYYYYY with Tom Cruise) does a fantastic job, he is sooooooo good in that role. Hope he gets an award for it.

We rented Bruce Almighty with Jim Carrey the other night. I do not usually enjoy Jim Carrey but thought this one was FUNNY!!!

On the drooling front I go for Viggio Mortenson from Lord of the Rings.

That is a film I'd like to see - reviews look excellent. I have to admit to a tendre for Nightcrawler from Xmen 2 but there always was something odd about me...( Viggio is quite a hunk)

My hubby and I went to see Lord of The Rings:Return of the king.
EXCELLENT!!! I've read the books and had see the 2 previous movies. Although I knew what was going to happen, I still cried like a baby. It's very emotional and the action is the best i've seen this year in movies! I recommend it. But be mindful, it's really not for small children or kids that are sensitive to guts and stuff (and maybe some adults too...)
Now i'm ready for a comedy. I think Friday the movie "My Baby's Daddy" is coming out. It's worth a few mindless laughs.

no fair, both my daughters have seen LOTR - all three and I've only managed to get hubby to 1 and 2. I'll need to take one of them with me as he is lukewarm about seeing three. I want to see it Big Screen before the DVD comes out. My daughter wept buckets, too. The boyfriend (I think) made disparaging remarks re the virtuosity of the swordplay - healways does, he plays with swords a lot - recently took ownership of a claymore for crying out loud!

Speaking of 3 1/2 hours long. I was prepared. I bought a drink, but only sipped on it. About the last 30 mins. of the movie, my drink was gone and I was getting pretty antsy. You should have seen everyone at the end of the movie. There was a mad dash to the restrooms!

I agree with you Mary....Richard Gere is the best! He's wonderful to watch!

I did see the Movie Somethings Got to Give with Jack Nickelson and Diane Keaton a week ago and highly reccommend it. It was histerical! Master and Commander was interesting too, can't believe how men survived living like that on those ships!

Splurged at the weekend and enjoyed The Hulk - longer than I expected and some very interesting dissolves and editing, better than expected given the reviews.

and Pirates of the Carribean - great fun, a rollicking, swahbuckling romp. Johnny Depp is an absolute scream - apparently he based the character of Jack Sparrow on Mick Jagger!

We watched The Hulk one night. My son loved it. It was just okay to me, but I thought the special effects were excellent.

We also watched Bruce Almighty. It was pretty funny. I was surprised when part of it made me cry.

DD and I are anxiously awaiting Harry Potter III.:bluesmile
I think it comes out in June. I saw some pictures of filming and Hagrid's hut is set on a hill now. They also had some nice pictures of Fang.
Can't wait to see it. P.O.A. is my favorite Harry Potter book so far, with book 5 a close second.

I'm planning to take DS to see Return of the King weekend after next. He loves those books.

I enjoyed the Hulk, Bama, the transitions were interesting I have to say. My daughter who is a media student watched it and liked the way it was trying to look like a comic book.

Last week I wathced "La Buche" (The Yule Log) a 1999 French film. I liked it so much that I wathced it twice the same day.

In this lightweight French comedy from screenwriter-turned-director Daniele Thompson, three daughters scheme to reunite their parents, who divorced 25 years ago and haven't spoken to each other since. It's a Christmas dinner that will give every person from a dysfunctional family a nod of acknowledgement and many laughs.
Starring: Sabine Azema, Emmanuelle Beart
Director: Daniele Thompson
Language: French
Subtitles: English

hi jan,
Yes, I've watched 'Amelie' a few times. My favorite. I've also seen other movies with Audrey Tautou. Another film I liked with her was 'Happenstance'. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend.
As a rule, I love European films. There's even one in Czheck (sorry for the spelling), that I've seen a few years ago, 'Kolya', and it's on my list to watch again.

When I was a teen french films were all people in trenchcoats in the rain , on bridges - filmed in black and white. We lent Amelie to some friends and they have returned it still without knowing what was going on or why they watched it. we can't watch it without shouting with laughter. I haven't seen any other of her films but will keep an eye out, thanks.

'Amelie' is so clever, isn't it. And the music is excellent.
I love the beginning when they show the little girl putting the raspberries on all her fingers and then eating them, with a mischiveous look in her eyes.
Your friends are missing out. definitely.

Haven't you always wished for a liitle voice to come out of the drain and give you the feed lines? I still croke when she sneaks into the greengrocers flat and replaces things - the lightbulbs, the doorhandles, the slippers! I'm grinning just thinking of it! My friends like a)action films with no human interest to get it the way or b)big frock romances a la Jane Austen. a)husband and b) wife - I have No Idea how they do to the pictures together...

i'm lucky that my husband enjoys foreign films like me. he doesn't like the mushy stuff, and i doen't like action/adventure, so we usually settle on clever foreign or a trial movie.

that part of the story is hillarious. the writer of this film is a genious! of course the director is too.

DH and I along with 350 of our fellow church members saw a pre-opening screening of "the Passion of Christ" tonight. Mel Gibson did a wonderful job of staying within the parameters of the scriptural account of the arrest, scourging and crucifixation of Jesus. The scourging scenes are very brutal and hard to watch as well as the carrying of the cross scenes along the Via Dela Rosa to the place of His crucifixation. All in all, it is accurate and very well done.

There has been so much controversy over this movie. I think Mel Gibson has opened up a whole new world of possible movie ideas. Even the Pope watched it.

They had a midnight showing of "The Passion of Christ" here in Cleveland last night. The news reporter said that even she and her camera man, along with everyone else in the theather, left the movie with tears and stunned. Very graffic, very violent, not a movie for ANYONE under the age of 16 rs of age.
BUT.......a VERY GOOD MOVIE, she along with the people she interviewed, said that it reaffirms their belief in their faith and love of Christ.
All rated it AAAAA+

Bama I don't think I would take a child under 16. There wer quite a few college/career age young adults from our church there last night and I did see on young boy that is in the children's choir so I know that he is under 12. That same boy has some attention deficit problems or something on that order and I was surprised to see him when the movie was over. Anyway, I really don't think it is a movie that children would understand. It is in aramaic (sp?) with the English translation that you have to read, for one thing. Although a few minutes into the movie and I forgot that it was being spoken in English.

Susie I saw this movie and there is absolutely no need for any race of people to be upset because no one is accused of anything in this movie. As you watch the movie, you beccome involved and feel like you are part of the crowd that swirls around Jesus and aids and abets everything that is being done to him. Every face in that movie except that of Jesus and, of course, satan, can be any or all of us, no matter what our race, religion or color. And, Jesus makes the statement that no man takes His life, he is laying it down willing for all of mankind. The movie is totally scriptural and no where in the Bible do you ever read any accusation against anyone and the same is true of this movie.

I saw the movie today.. and agree with Patsy.. It was an experience that I wish would stay with me without seeing the movie again to MOVE me as much as it did!!!

Politically.. it did not point fingers to any CREED at all...

as far as the graphic pictures... we see worse on our TV.. with the news and some reality TV...

It was truly an enlightment of surmizing that the next time a person I cannot even look eye to eye with because of an aura we may not share.. I will give it a few thoughts of being pleasant.. for that time that they are in my space...

I saw The Passion of the Christ. It wasn't as bad as I had expected from hearing so much about it. Maybe I've just gotten too used to seeing too much violence in movies and TV.

I thought it was done very well. The english subtitles were a good idea. It wouldn't have been the same if they had spoken in english. All the actors portrayed their characters very well. And I thought Mel Gibson followed the gospels pretty well.

Has anyone seen Lion King 1 1/2? What a hoot. Definitely more for the adults than the kids, the GKs enjoyed it but didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the adults in the room! The little ones were wondering what we were all laughing about most of the time.

Pirates is SOOO funny, and Johny Depp amazing! He apparently based his character on Mick Jagger from the Stones!

Johnny Depp is a quirky genius. He really goes his own path, my daughter drools over him.

Pirates was already off the selection list on Friday. I am so upset. I hope it comes back.

Dede, if it doesn't, you just HAVE to go rent it somewhere. Better yet, buy it. It's worth seeing more than one time. It's hilarious!:bg:
