Does anyone have any suggestion on how to cut a straight line in fabric? As an example, I am making window treatments for a room and I am putting a nylon like lining on the back. Of course the edges are not straight and so I can't really rely on the finished edge. It always seems that once I start to sew that extra little bit of fabric causes a problem. Any advice for any fabric is truly appreciated!! Lore |

Can You pull a thread? Then it will be straight and on the straight of the grain to ensure it hangs right. It's a pain, I know, but usually worth the effort. Dorothy |

You can also tear a strip off one cut end to put the fabric on the straight-of-grain. Cut about an inch into the selvage side of the fabric. Tear the strip all the way across and off the opposite selvage side. Fold the fabric in half, or fourths, lining up the wavy, ragged edge you just created. Trim this off, then go about your cutting. You can tear another narrow strip off whenever you feel you need to. Good luck. |
