This is a toughie, he is 13 and loves computers. The problem is he already has every gadget known. I might end up with movies on DVD for him. Any other suggestions.

He doesn't care about music or clothes.

MP3 player to listen to music. That way he can dwload the music he wants.

I know you said he doesn't like clothes. But my guy wants a leather Jacket. I was thinking imitation leather. or man made. He wants a bomber style.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

My husband has a leatherman Multi tool. It has like a screw driver and small knife and pliers can opener things like that he wears it on his belt and uses it all the time. I know lots of the boys here get that sort of thing.

How about a Magazine subscription? My DS (15) has asked for NIntedo Magazine for Christmas. DS (17) wants Gas money. They are getting very hard to buy for. You just have to listen carefully to what they talk about & get ideas from that.

Mary,

I know you said he doesn't care much about music, but what about making it? My DS doesn't care too much about music either but he loves making it. He's got a keyboard, drums, and various kinds of rhythm pieces. There is a lot of variety as to functions, tonal quality, etc. He might like being able to combine sounds on his own to come up with a song all his own. Look for something programmable to get that feature.

Another thing that my DS is very much into these days is making movies with our old video camera. He and his friends have a great time planning things out, acting and directing, and watching the finished product. I'm just glad that it is getting some use because we haven't used it regularly in years.

Are there any book series that he's interested in? Sometimes you can branch out from one book.

Is he into games at all? I was looking at all of the air hockey tables in the ads this year, wishing we had space to put one because I know mine would love that.

If all else fails, does he like to go to the movies or to a certain restaurant? There are always gift certificates.

It's tough coming up with something when they don't have a lot of interests and they outgrow their old ones, isn't it?

Good luck to you!

Jill, he would love a set of drums, but I am not that desperate yet. :whacky:

He does love movies, so I will get him some movie money and he always gets books. He just loves science fiction/fantasy books.

If he has serious interest in drums besides making a lot of loud noise you could get him a practice pad and set of drum sticks.

Stitchmd is right Mary, you could get an electronic type of drum set or even something smaller, more keyboard sized with different drum and percussion sounds. These are usually made to be used with headphones, yay!

depends on how much you want to spend really. If he is into computers what about a digital camera - doesn't have to be top of the range my son had a lot of fun with a $30 basic.
Smellies ie deodorants etc, funky boxer shorts, socks, voucher book for local movies we can get anything from 1 -10 pass books with popcorn and drink vouchers included for a reasonable price.
Fleece blanket. Electronics kit set to make up -I've run dry
Now you lot what am I going to get my 16yr DS who says she has everything she needs and wants for nothing ! which is true but I am running out of inspiration. I have bought some small bits and bobs for scrap-booking, and a phone card to top up her mobile, and 2x nail polishes ideas welcome:nc:

Skye,

I was really hoping that some of the others would have some ideas for you because I don't have much to offer you. It is difficult to find something for those who are satisfied with what they already have isn't it?

Does she like jewelry? There are so many cute necklaces out now, I ended up having a tough time choosing some for my nieces. Does she like special bath products at all, I always like to buy special bath or shower lotions, etc. Music is usually great at that age too. What I've been trying to do this year is to dress up the gift cards that I give. One of them is going into a coffee mug, one will be in a picture frame, others are going into some decorated tins I found. That way, there is at least a smidgen of creativity involved in the gift!

Good luck in your shopping!

I think we are on to a pressie tho' as she mentioned that a small sound system for her bedroom would be nice so I am off to the shops today to have a look - with my luck it will blow my budget - who went shopping and bought MORE quilting fabric yesterday:bg: aided and abetted by DH I might add

My son played drums in the school band for years. We went to route of the complete drum set, which now sits in boxes packed away. They have come out with electric drums that you can plug headphones into and you never hear a sound, just the one with the headphones on!!!! We gave our daughter a paino for her 16th b'day 6 yrs ago that you use the headphones with, she found that it helped to to hear the mistakes easier and it blocked out the outside noise for her. She's away at school now, I miss hearing her play.
Gift certificates for movies are big hits, also for food places, with teenagers. My daughter asked for food ones this year again for Swensons drive-in fast food, they make the greastest hamburgers ever!!!! She's lucky enough to have one right in her college town. College kids live one very tight budgets, so these have really paid off for her. You can only take so much of campus food!!!!
I have also found that certificates to favored clothing stores go over good, that way they get what THEY want, so when their happy you are too, it's not sitting in the back of the clothest or the bottom of a drawer, or better yet snuck into the Goodwill bag!!!!!
Teenager, don't ya just love 'em!!!!!!!

My brother and I are both computer geeks (who grew up to get computer geek jobs :P ), so if you haven't got anything yet, I have some ideas:

a computer tool kit

an old computer --very fun to dis-assemble, even better if you can put it back together and get it working again

a computer workstation light--provides enough light, but without the glare that overheads cause

a mini refrigerator for keeping cold caffeine handy

one of those heat/massage things that strap to the back of a chair--mom bought my bf and I those last year. She meant for us to use them in the car, but we like them better on our computer chairs :D

if he has a cd-burner, spindles of CD-r's are wooooonderful gifts

web space of his very own

www.thinkgeek.com has gadgets even for people who think they already have all the gadgets known to man (or woman)

Skye,
I woud suggest some type of keepsake thing...maybe with a message about sisters(she is your sister, right?...I'm never sure about these abbreviations! :bg: )

Mary,

About the teenage boys...I tell my son to give me a list, and to not expect everything, and possibly, anything on it. :bg: I just want an idea of what he's hoping for...
Take care,
Donna

My 15yo DS asked for money for Christmas. He's been saving for his own computer, so this will get him almost there.
I bought him 2 small gifts because I can't stand the thought of him not having anything to open Christmas morning. He said it wouldn't bother him.:nervous: He usually doesn't like anything I pick out for him anyway. Very picky with his clothes, music, video games, etc.
DH is better at picking out gadgets for our son.

As for my almost teen daughter, it's easy to buy for her. She always loves everything.:bluesmile
