It is snowing here  Nothing too serious but definitely snowing.

In another area, Cape Breton got a foot of snow yesterday, everyone is digging out. Schools closed, highways blocked, it's winter in the Maritimes

I always think it is funny that down east when you get a foot of snow schools are closed here we get a foot of snow everyone is like oh well at least it isn't to cold to snow. Our kids never get snow days and rarely get cold days (I think it has to be colder the -50).

Sherri --

Same here in ND -- we get a foot or 2 and its business as usual -- now if we get a blizzard where you cant see your hand in front of your face and the snow plows cant keep up with the snow that s when MAYBE things start to close

of course it was a god send when the state passed a "law" that says if the there is an absolutely no driving in effect you will get a huge ticket for trying to drive (well at least in fargo it is)

i know this cuz i walked to the convenience store s few years back for milk and the police were going to give me a ticket and i said what for i walked and you know they followed me home to make sure my car was actually in the parking lot LOL
stitchin' up a storm

I lived in Ontario, Canada for 21 years.. and LOVE the chill and bite in the air.. and the first snow fall I praise the skies for the calm feeling of life itself..

well living here in North Carolina, the weather goes under 40 degrees F and toques, mitts and leggings are on... in the office each little cubicle has a 'heater' :nc: I have my little fan blowing on my hot flashed body...

and if it scatters a few flurries.. Oh well.. School is closed!!

I will miss everything except the SHOVEL.... :bg:

We haven't had any snow yet..grass is as green as it was in July but my dtr lives about 1 hr 20 min from here and they got quite a blizzard on Wednesday and a couple of main roads were closed because of tractor trailers and cars in the ditch. They are right smack in the middle of a "snow belt" as it's called and we live in what is known as the "banana belt" because we miss so many of the storms.
:Canada:
p.s. Can't say I like winter..especially since I got Trimeninal Neuralgia...and hubby HATES winter. We should have been born in the south!!

Born and raised in Maine, have lived in southern New Mexico where even the thought of snow shut the city down, Missouri where winters actually weren't too bad, Grand Forks,North Dakota where most of the snow storms we experienced were sideways and temperatures way below zero, and now Virginia where you can see snow flakes and experience 50 degree temps all with in 24 hours or less. I gave my winter coat away the first year here since it doesn't get cold enough for me to have one, even when it does snow. Would love to have a white Christmas.

I don't live as far north as Sherri and nothing shuts us down except for power outages. Kids go home and teachers stay.
I drive in all kinds of weather including snow warnings. You learn how to deal with it. Maybe our snow is drier than theirs Sherri but I will help wash anyone's face who is mowing lawns and planting trees.

Can I help the maritime influence of the Gult Stream? :bluewink: The grass is cut now, and today we have a hard frost so it's out to scrape the car before work, The begonias have finally succumbed to the cold and need to be removed from the pots! Still have yet to plant the tree ( job for next weekend)

We too, have cut our grass! We had to scrape the frost off the car yesterday, but we don't have frost this morning! I would love snow for christmas, but I don't think we will get any. It has been so mild this year it's hard to believe we are just weeks away from christmas.

Where we are Christmas Day is normally bright sunny and still green underfoot - it's January that the cold really sets in - doesn't seen to get colder until after the winter solstice and then it takes forever for the sun to come back and you to stop living in seemingly perpetual gloom. Then there is that one magic day in April when you suddenly notice that the breeze is warm and you KNOW in your bones that it is spring..

No snow yet, but we have thick, freezing fog today! I love snow - it's a bit of a novelty here. I suppose if we had lots of it and got snowed in etc. I probably wouldn't be so keen on it.....still, it would be nice to have a white xmas!

Sad but true, the begonias have gone....I have just planted the tree ( a horse chestnut that D D grew from a conker) into our school grounds, accompanied by daughter, Basil the boyfriend and Pete the Hippy. Pete insisted on sprinkling some Bombay mix in the hole for the tree to have something to eat.

The stupid daffodils have now sprouted and are above ground and winter hasn't happened yet. They do get carried away! Bring it on, Wordsworth!

We were supposed to get up to an inch of snow last night. We only got a dusting. The snow all went west & north of us. I don't ussually like snow much but I think it might help get me in the Christmas spirit. With my Dad gone only 3 weeks it is really hard to concentrate on Christmas. They are predicting more throughout the day today but the radar doesn't look promising. Maybe Wednesday's storm will bring some.

Diane, you have to see Pete the Hippy to appreciate him, a gentle guy, multicoloured striped jumper, ginger tight curly hair, sandles, soft voice - a facultaive vegan. Basil the Boyfriend ( also known as basil the Biter - having bit her once at nursery school) would be great if there ever was a nucleur winter having been born out of time - he really should be medievil - is now taking his gap year working in a brewery!
I'm not convinced the Pete the Hippy isn't stoned most of the time!
Definately the people to plant trees with....

The snow that was suppose to hit Lansing last night made it to Chatham, Ontario. We have quite a bit of cumulation and it is our first snow fall of the season - could be the last if I had my way!!!

It has been snowing here in Pittsburgh, Pa. since the wee hours,,,,we were supposed to get 3-5 inches. We had over 6 at noon, and its almost 3pm and STILL snowing....Maybe we wont' have school, that would be kewl, as I am a cafeteria manager, I did get 4 kinds of cookies baked though, while staring out my kitchen window and the snowy day. Keep warm everyone!!

Hey you should come to Ohio!!!!! The weather changes here every hour. first sun, then snow, then a heat wave and then back to snow!!!!!
Today was my sons 19th b'day, i've been teary all day, he's growing up so fast. His sister became engaged on her b'day in Sept. ( she turned 22 ).
We stopped in a pet store today and I just fell in love with all the stray dogs and cats that they had there. Everyone was wanting to get a kitten or puppy. I was pulled to the older cats that had to be giving up because of the owners health or they had lost there homes. Those are the ones that don't understand why they are in a strange place. I told my kids I would love to have an older pair of cats for X-mas. They just rolled their eyes and reminded me that I have 4 already!!!!! All rescues and very very spoiled.
I hope that you can find it in your heart to give and older pet a good home for the last years of it's life so they don't have to be put down. I just love it when my seal-point curls up next to me every night and purrrrrs in my ear because she happy, it took me almost a year to get her to feel safe and loved. Right now I have one trying to get my attention to pet her head while I'm typing this, that's a normal when anyone is on here, " PET MY HEAD"!!!
They make great heater too!!!!!!!!!!!!
To me Christmas is my hubby, 2 kids and
Minnie, Tinkerbell, Barkley and Babie
and the birth of a very special child.
Happy Holidays Everyone and to your loved ones too.
