I don't get to watch television much. I am busy all day and hubby seems to pride himself in never relinquishing the remote in the evenings. This leaves supper hour. While cooking supper I sometimes watch Dr. Phil. Not every night because around here between 4-5 pm it can be crazy. However, when I do hear the odd show I enjoy it. I think Dr. Phil makes sense most of the time. I told my sister this and she rolled her eyes around like I needed my head examined. Has anyone else watched him or have any opinions. MaryW

I don't usually watch his show, but have seen it once or twice. Usually in the morning, we see a 'preview' of the topic, and he does offer a general comment. I think his comments are right on, and his advice is great. He isn't a wishy washy person...he speaks the truth about situations, and often, that is hard to hear! My husband was an eye-roller, until he took the time to listen to what the guy had to say. Take care,

My mom, dad and I all LOVE Dr. Phil... the thing we like most about him... he expects everyone to take responsibility for themselves and their own actions. He does not play the blame game. Unfort. our society has turned into a "blame game" and people don't want to take responsibility for their own actions. ==Brenda Lou

Yep, he puts into words what everyone is thinking. He can pick a phoney out a mile away.

Ya know....I like what Dr. Phil has to say and the way he says it, but theres something about the man that irritates me no end, so I don't watch the show....( it's either his voice/accent or his stary eyes....maybe both, I haven't figured it out yet....)

i think dr. phil is usually right on with his responses, and very direct with people, some people just need to hear the truth about themselves whether they like it or not, and deal with it!!! the blame game is to wide spread and people need to take responsibility for what they do or say! just my two cents!!!

I enjoy Dr. Phil too because he gives people a wake up call when they need it. Besides, watching all those people with so many problems on his show makes me feel pretty darn good about my marriage, kids and life in general!!!! Everything is relative. I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

I like Dr. Phil too. I don't watch him everyday. I also realize that my problems (which seem huge to me) are very miniscule compared to the ones on the show. THen I don't fel so bad. |

Yesterday, when I watched Dr. Phil for a minute he had his wife on for a few minutes. She discussed menopause and some things to help cope with that. He already has a son that gives teens advice, I don't know. Somehow, the whole thing kind of turned me off. It's just not as believeable as I once thought it was, or am I just tired and cranky. MaryW

Yesterday I watched Dr. Phil only for a few minutes, but I saw this mother who was really at her wits end. She had just married this guy who had an 11 yr. old daughter. The daughter was very rebellious against the new mother. Her natural mother had walked out on her, as had many of the father's girlfriends. This woman was really trying to help the girl, but to no avail. She was at her wits end. I felt bad for her. MaryW

I guess the girl's behaviour is the reason all the others left? I wonder what her father has been doing to help the situation...maybe he is one who expects others to deal with his problems while he is busy with his own life. I'm so cynical some days... Take care,

LOL, yes you are Donna, I know the feeling. Isn't it something how you can see your own attitudes once you write something down and see it in print.

I saw a biography on Dr. Phil. He's not such a great guy. A total control freak, and by the way, that wasn't his first wife you saw on his show. |

Hi Mary. Yes, it's me. I've tried to stop in every month or so, but don't often have a chance to stay and chat. Lots has been going on. If you remember, my dh had an accident at work 18 mos. ago. He's still messed up from that, off work, no money coming in from him. My job was cut drastically and I'm working only 20 hours a week now, so basically, we're living on savings...maybe for another 6 months, then we'll be broke. We're trying to get him on disability retirement and SS, but it's an uphill battle. My youngest step daughter had her appendix rupture earlier this year. She almost died. It took her a long time to get back to normal, then last week she made another trip to the emergency room. Now they think she may have gallstones (SHE'S ONLY 18!!!) but she's responding to meds so they're putting off doing an ultrasound until the new year. I live in the path of the Southern California Firestorm and was evacuated for a week at Halloween. My house is still there but most of my neighbors aren't. My MIL and FIL lost their house. My SIL lost her house. My BIL lost his yard and everything in it, including his attached patio, and the doorbell and blinds melted out of his house but the house is still there. Today is my last work day of the year. I have a computer and slooooowww internet service at home. I don't usually go online except at work. I may or may not get back to see you guys before the end of the year. END OF THE YEAR! It will be good getting a new year. The one I had is sort of cracked. Seriously, God doesn't give you anything unless he's sure you can handle it. Basically, we're all happy and well adjusted. Forgive my rant, I guess when I get with old friends, I feel compelled to spill my guts. I'll try to get back a little more often, and stay a little longer. Everybody, have a great holiday season! Sheri, I'm so sorry you are having such a hard year. 2004 will be much better and brighter for your family. Please try to stop by a little more often.
