I am desperate for help!
Please help me. I want to sew so badly. I no longer sew because I cannot fit myself. I have an extremely large bust. (I wear a 44J bra) All my dresses/skirts rise up at the center front. Hems are never even. I am losing weight but I need some clothes in the meantime. I can buy very few clothes. I would love to have a jacket that does not rise up at the hemline, even if I find one big enough they all rise up at the hemline. If there is a book or video or advice from anyone in existence I sure would appreciate it very, very, very much. Thank you.

Naomi,

One of the best fitting books I've ever read is called Fit for Real People by Pati Palmer and Marta Alto. They have step-by-step instructions with lots of photos - very easy to follow. All the models they use are real sized people, not the run-way types. One of the models wore a 40W bra, so the instructions would be similar to what you need.

It was published in 1998 but you could maybe track one down through your local library or through one of the used books places on the net.

Good luck!

Naomi, I second the opinion about Fit for Real People, it is the best of the half dozen or so fitting books in my collection.

In practise I seldom do the actual tissue fitting the book teaches because I have no sewing buddy to help me. So I use measurements and then use their techniques to adjust the pattern.

I never cut into the original pattern, but always trace off a working pattern which I slash and spread to achieve a well fitted pattern.

Anyone who has a large bust knows she needs extra circumference in the garment. but many forget they also need extra length in the front. the bust cup adjustment from FFRP automatically adjusts both .
