I am having trouble shortening the crotch length of a pair of low waist zippered pants with a fitted waistband. I am very short in this area and need to remove 3 inches from both the front and back. I cut the pattern at the shortening line and over lap the amount needed, keeping both peices on the original grain line. There is so much difference at the inseam that I cannot figure out how to true the seam...drawing the line from waist to just before the "curve" ends up being very angled. This isn't as much of a problem on the front as it is on the back. I am getting tired of sewing elastic waist pants that you can basically "chop" the top off

Since you are using a style without much length in that section and need it shorter than the pattern there is very little room to grade that line and the angle may be correct. Try making them up from cheap fabric to test and adjust the fit further.
