I just got my pattern for the Artemis Coat by La Fred. I can't wait to jump into this one. I was going to make it without the scarf, but when I think of it, the coat would be just too plain without it. The scarf is what dresses it up. What do you think. I have some cream nubby wool and thought maybe to do the scarf from cream heavy satin. Then again, it may be too dressy. At any rate, here is what it looks like. http://www.timmelfabrics.com/lafredartemis.jpg MaryW

Is that with the scarf one side your nubby wool , one side cream satin? It looks like the scarf should be made of the same material as the coat, but I like the idea of making it your own.

What about making the scarf separately...then you could make more than one scarf. You would then have the option of wearing it with or without a scarf.
Take care,

Shouldn't that be "LE Fred"?

If you know your french, then yes it should be le fred, but she has it spelled la fred. She is a nice looking lady with a man's name. Fred Bloebaum.

Mary, I have that pattern in my collection. Although I have not made it up, I did try one on at a La Fred trunk show. It is frankly HUGE. I usually start with a size 22 pattern to get a reasonable fit in the shoulders, then size it up to a 26 or so from the underarm south. But the Artemis coat in a large was way too big for me. So be sure to test the fit and ease before you cut into that lovely fabric. And I vote for a self fabric collar/scarf. Lala Chile Pepper from Texas

I looked at the measurements after you posted this Lala, you are right. For a size small, the hip and bust width of the finished garment is 53" I better take another look at this. Thanks for the heads up Lala.

Wow, Mary I am impressed! I wouldn't even dare pick up a pattern like that, never mind try to make it! Mind you, I am only a beginner. Maybe one day.........

Don't be impressed, it isn't that difficult. Appearances can be deceiving.

Is that even choosing a smaller size and not using self material for the scarf?

I think I will wait and make a longish vest for spring. It is cream coloured boucle and will make up nicely for cool days. Sound good?

i like the design of that coat, but i do think the scarf is a bit too much. it would be neat to make it in courderoy. |
