I am creating a costume for a cruise in April and I need a male form. Nothing fancy, the costume is not tailored, it's Bizantine and is mostly flowing robes. so I don't need measurements. I just need something that is as tall as I am and has shoulders/chest/ and back.

I was checking them out on the net and they costs over $200.00 and I'm not about to buy one to make a single costume.

Can anyone suggest an alternative, or tell me where I would look for a second hand one?

Hi Michael! Here's a discussion on dress forms including duct-tape forms.

Hope you find it helpful.

Raine,

This was just GREAT!

It's interesting because I had decided to do something similar, using plaster-a-paris; like paper mache. This link described the process perfectly, only with paper tape!

I was going to use cheese cloth but a t-shirt is a far better idea. I was also wondering how I would get out of it; "cutting up the back" makes better sense than my plan to cut it in half, under the arms.

Thanks so much for sharing this thread.

You're welcome! Good luck! I've never made one, so I hope it works out for you.

You also might try going to a dept store and asking if they have store 'dummies' for sale or for free....sometimes it's just a torso, but if thats all you need, then it fits the bill...or in this case Mike...
