Okay, can anyone please tell me why Hancock Fabric is closing stores in the States? I love their stores more than JoAnn Fabrics and the nearest store is now over an HOUR away from me!!!!
We are very limited to other fabric stores in this area, and the ones that we dohave cater to Quilters.
I have three JoAnn Fabric stores and the HQ's within a 20 minute drive, but I'm not happy with them.

Does anyone know what's up with Hancock Fabrics??????

We are loosing are best Joannes and getting more Hancocks. The joannes that is staying is the crafty one and the one that is closing holds the formal fabrics. and none of the 3 hancocks we have have a large selection of formals.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

I don't think they closing all the Hancocks. They closed one store in my region, BUT they closed it because they were losing more money then they were actually making, the other stores in my area aren't closing.

Hancock Fabrics closed two of the stores in my area and opened a new one in one of the more affluent suburbs. It is 35 miles away. When I asked the Regional Manager, he said that the stores are 12 - 20 miles apart and that theft was the primary reason for closure. It now takes me 45 minutes or longer to reach a Hancock Fabric store, a Wal-Mart, or anywhere else for sewing supplies or a spool of thread. Even the dealers have moved to the more affluent suburbs. I'm lucky that I can still drive and have a fairly reliable vehicle. Very unfortunate.

I watched a documentary on retail theft. Over 50% of the time, it is the employees. I was shocked by that one.

Good grief....I had no idea that they are closing some of the Hancock stores! :bluesad: ...I would be thrilled to have a Hancocks here in Vermont!. We have 1 Joannes that s about 45 minutes away in good weather. In the winter....Ha! Anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours because of ice and snow covered winding roads.

They have a small mall there and it also has a WalMArt in there. Very small, good for threads, trims and nursery fabrics and quilted fabric. :re:

The other WalMart that has a fabulous Fabric Department is in NH and about 20 minutes away by expressway. :nervous: ... So...I either go that route or order by mail.

Happy Sewing
