Can ya'll give me some advice? I bought New Look pattern 6326 (it's the one on the catalog cover), but I'm a little concerned about the fit. I'm a pretty busty girl, and these types of shirts have a tendency not to allow for women bigger than a C cup, so they ride up. How would you alter the pattern piece for the top front? I'm thinking of sticking a pin in the pattern piece and kind of "swinging" it to make it wider at the bottom, then gathering more...That would probably make more sense if I could show you the actual piece, I guess. Any help would be appreciated, though. Thanks. |

What shape is this piece? Is it flat or curved at the bottom? I think you need to slash it as shown in that article, but in more than one place. I would experiment with making one vertical slash directly to the bust point and two slightly angled ones pointing towards the same spot. I suspect adding a curve or increasing the curve of the bottom where it gathers would also help. I hope someone will have more specific instructions, but if not you'll have to make some paper practice pieces and do some trial and error until you get the adjustment just right. Please let us know how it works out as it will be valuable learning for us too. |

When altering for a larger bra cup size, one needs to add fabric in the bust area only. Check out Patti Palmer's book "Fit for Real People" as she shows how this is done without altering the length of the shirt which can spoil the entire look. My DD is very busty for the junior size pattern she wears and I have to increase the bust on every garment. Miss patterns are too large across the shoulders for her and children sizes are too small. I cut the pattern perpendicular to the bust point and add the extra fabric (like a godet) in the bust area. This prevents the lines of the pattern from being distorted. Happy Stitching!
