I love this part the most. What did you get for Christmas? I got all my dreams and more. Actually I get Christmas and Birthday together so this is what I got. I'm spoiled. Not really if he gets me food prep things he stands to gain from it too. :bg:

Pressure cookers (6.5 quart and a 3 quart)

Meat slicer

Ice Cream maker I got today for my birthday

Meat grinder (for my kitchen aid mixer with a sausage maker)

Blender (one thing I never had use for but wanted one anyway)

Splatures the kind you put in hot and they don't melt up to 450 degrees

Salt and Pepper Mills (Very pretty ones large stainless steel ones)

Mushroom slicer cool little gadget

He wanted to get me something for my sewing but I couldn't think of one thing I wanted. :whacky: Silly me I should have told him a new Janome 10001. LOL Nah I love my MC9000 I'm not greedy.

Santa brought me a KitchenAid stand mixer and a beaded victorian floor lamp. It's next to my chair and ottoman so I can do hand sewing while watching TV.
My Santa isn't good at picking out sewing or quilty things.

Bama you are going to love your mixer. I don't know what I did without mine before. I made Christmas cookies last year with mine and forgot to add the food coloring when they were all mixed up so I said what the heck I'll try and do it now. Well in a matter of about 1 minute the cookie doe was red. What a wonderful gift. I liked mine so much that I bought my sister one for her birthday last year and she loves her's too. Let me know what you make with yours. Maringes come out so easy and fluffy without any effort.

Karebear,

You got the best gift of all. The love of a child. I was with mine all day today, all of them!!!! What a lucky day for me today. All the kids and all the grands went and shot target practice on a peice of property that my Brother's friend lives on. The girls even shot their BB guns. Oh yes, the granddaughter have BB guns. They even go Duck hunting and Deer hunting with their Dad's. The Grandsons got shotguns for hunting and they shoot better than their Dad's. The oldest is 13 and the youngest is 10 and they shot skeet today very well. I was shocked. Their aim is so good they must have hit 4 out of 6 each time they got up for their turn. They have to learn gun safely before they can go hunting so they target practice and learn gun safety. I had a wonderful Day yesterday and today. All 3 sons and all 5 Grands were there today. And don't forget my hubby. He was there too. Makes you feel so good to feel the love.

Sounds like you girls had a wonderful Christmas day. :bluesmile

My hubby gave me a trip. The second week of January we are leaving for New York City. We will be there for 5 days. I plan on finding some fabric stores for sure. :bluewink: He has always wanted to see NYC so now is our time.

Then we fly to Washington D.C. and tour the Smithsonian Institute. This will be a once in a lifetime trip I think. We are going to stay here a few days, he is really into aeronautical history, etc. I want to see the antique clothing and quilts.

Then, we fly to Key West and stay there for a few days. After that, we are going to Louisianna and probably over to Las Vegas.

I will not be absent throughtout this trip, I will be with you every day. Our laptop is coming along too. LOL.

I am so overwhelmed with this trip, I can't think straight. It is going to be really something.

My son and his girlfriend are moving into our house to look after Jordan. They are renovating theirs so it works perfectly. I just can't believe it!

Oh Mary that sounds wonderful. What a wonderful trip. How long are you going to be gone all total? I'd love to do something like this but I get home sick after the first week and want to come home. I miss the kids and grandkids. Give me a holler when you get to Louisiana if you are in my neck of the woods we can meet for coffee and beignets in the French Quraters. We have a quilt shop here in the quarters and one up town also. Never been to the one uptown but have been to the one in the French Qurarters and it is small but nice. Lots of Mardi Gras fabric.

I forgot to mention that my hubby and me gave each other a trip to the Carribean in June for Christmas. I almost forgot that until you mentioned your trip. It's only for 5 days and we go to Playa Del Somthing are another I forgot how to spell it, and then on to Cosumel. We've been several times but this is my Brother and his wife's first time so we will have fun. I love to Cruise.

My daughter sneaked a peek at the website and got me the A-Z visual guide! daughter 2 a gothic cross, hubby a fabulous wacky fleece hat, black and covered with bright knotted tassels all over, Tombraider V for the PS2 ( Yay!) and a thong, in which I look like a boil in the bag turkey. Good job he likes turkey!
Silk scarf and smellies. very nice, and daughters company all day! and the boyfriend round christmas eve and boxing day! He seems to be less frightened of us..( he thinks we don't like him because we make them sleep in separate rooms but this is our house and that's how we do it.. DD is fine about it but thinks we are silly)
And a lot of Chocolate....

Mary W,

If your husband is interested in all things Aeronautical, don't forget to visit the new the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum near Dulles Airport. It's an annex to the old Air and Space Museum (which has no room left to put more things). The Udvar-Hazy has the Blackbird, the Concord and the Enterprise (among other things). It opened last week.

Wow ....what a Christmas it was. Hubby out did himself, it was embarassing this year as I had more gifts under the tree than anyone else. Santa brought me a new set of Farbarware, a six CD Changer for my car, clothes, an antique toy sewing machine for my collection, jewelry, a watch, perfume, books, clothes and a beautiful suede jacket. And on top of all that he is taking me on a little cruise in January!

Have a great trip Mary W,

I live in the DC area, so if you have trouble finding stuff, places, etc etc just ask :)

If you are planning a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, they have a big quilt festival sometime in Feb (if that's when you are travelling)

Whoa, what quilt show and when???

My SIL had a hard time. I felt bad and we called to be sure she had family around. Hubby had her laughing a bit, so it was not a totally dreadful day. She still has her bad days and it's been almost a year.

Miss Mary...besides the Smithsonian....theres the White House and Capital...Arrlington Cemetary...(actually the Smithsonian is so B I G and in so many buildings that you could spend a few years looking and never see the same thing twice...they're always changing the exhibits). Theres always all the Memorials on the 'mall'...Washington Monument, Vietnam Memorial, WWII Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Monument. (on the 'mall' is also where the Smithsonian is...) Theres always shopping..there are LOTS of nice places to shop...The Metro (subway, sorta) can take you just about anywhere...The Pentagon. (theres a NICE mall there across the street)

Yes I did live there for a short time...and I didn't get to see everything I wanted..::heavy sigh::

Mary W,

As chrysantha said, there's tons to see.
Smithsonian has a zillion museums. If you like Art, the National Gallery (which is not a part of Smithsonian, but is on the National Mall) has an extensive collection of impressionist art. They often have really nice concerts in their cafe at 7:00 (just after the Museum closes), so you can eat a quiet dinner and enjoy really nice chamber music. Arthur M.Sackler gallery has Asian art. If you want to see some interesting sculpture, don't miss the Hirshorn.. It's an outdoor musem with great sculptures.

Don't miss the Hope diamond in the Museum of Natural History. Its huge.

My favorite ofcourse is the Air and Space.. Its such a great museum, trust me, even if you don't like Areoplanes, you will love it. There's a flight simulator there, with a hydraulic-powered cockpit. It's a blast. Ask your hubby to take you for a ride there. They also show a 3-D IMAX film on the International Space Station, if they are showing that, don't miss it.

Then ofcourse, there's the White House and the Lincoln Memorial.. We seem to have a mild winter this year, so you can actually walk by the Potomac and get to the Lincoln memorial. It's a beautiful place, very serene.

The big needle like structure that you will see even from air is the Washington Monument. You can get passes (free ofcourse) that will allow you to take the elevator to the top and see all of DC. Its a great sight.

Scenic Drives: George Washington Parkway (links DC to VA).
Also, Great Falls (in VA).

I suggest you don't drive in DC downtown. As every city is, it has a host of one-ways (and DC, despite what people say IS NOT a grid. Roads end suddenly or make 270 degree turns and you will end up in a bad part of DC, which you don't want to be in.) The DC Metro trains are the best in the country. Very Euro, very clean.

Since you come from Canada, you won't find whole lot of natural beauty in the mid-atlantic region... so I wouldn't waste my time with national parks and such.

Best thing about DC is that everything is free. Admissions to all museums and art galleries are free. So are all monuments.

Oh! before I forget.. If you are beer fans, there's a place near Dupont Circle called The Brickskeller. Its at 1523 22nd St. NW in Washington, DC. .Their Beer Menu looks like this(more than 500 varieties) (http://www.dc-sage.org/interest/beer/brickskeller.html)

If you want to eat good food, head for Georgetown. If you have not tried Ethiopian food, goto Zed's (In Georgetown). Its very famous and has the BEST Ethiopian food ever. Seafood? goto Clydes (its a lil expensive though). For a nice sunday brunch, head for Arties in Clarendon (DC suburb in Virginia). There's also a nice Thai place called Sawadtee in the same area.

Another intersting thing to try is a Mangolian Barbeque. Its "in fashion" here ;).. but its really good food and real fun. My favorite is the Flat top grill (http://www.flattopgrill.com/) in Ballston (in VA, very close to DC).

Geeez... this has become soooooo long. Hope it helps

Thank you so much, this is a huge help. I really wanna see the Hope Diamond. We were thinking of renting a car, I'm glad you told us about the city.

That quilt show is just when we are on our way back home, so I might just try to attend. You have been a huge help, thanks.:bluesmile :Canada:

Have a great trip Mary, I heard yesterday that security is very tight in New York at the moment - everyone is searched into a building ( eg empire state) and searched out again which leads to big queues. I may be wrong on this but you might need extra time then to get into some places.

This is England. It is raining. o joy.

Yeah..you are right Jan. Infact for all buildings of national/public importance. Give yourself extra time to get into museums (don't carry any sharp objects either... and yes..even a needle is a sharp object :whacky: )

On the other hand, Jan-Feb are not tourist seasons. So there won't be a crowd. (Although NYC is ALWAYS crowded :( )
