In college, the table we used was a continuos length of about 3.5-4 feet. The topside was made of cork-great for push pin or dress weight adjusting. On one of the shorter ends was a plug-in attached. This allowed for an iron to be used directly on the table.

This was great for slippery fabrics like rayon, jerseys and chiffons. I loved that table! But they do take up space. And the ones we had allowed for movement along all sides of the table-as opposed to shoving the table against the wall.

One improvement would be to add shelving of some kind underneath. This would be perfect storage space, a factor of every great sewing room.

My table is high (above my waist), large (55 by 32 inches), free standing and covered with a rotary cutting mat.
