Right now, our friends circle here is sorta divided. People who have kids and people who don't. We are all in the late 20s, early 30s age group (jeeezz.. most of you here have kids my age, makes me feel so..what's the word?.. inexperienced??.. I can't think of the word I wanted, so this is closest ...). Last year we opted to go out with the no-children group (to NYC). I have no kids. (YET. we are trying..hard). But that turned out to be a little too yuppy...Going clubbing is no more my cup of tea (and DH hates it). SO this year, we opted to stay with the people who have kids and I decided to give all the stressed out moms and dads a break and invite them for a nice quiet dinner. Good food, good wine (and good scotch, DH will drink only that).. nice conversation....The kids (all toddlers) will come too and I will rearrange the guest room a little so the toddlers can all go to sleep there... I AM getting old.. i guess...

Same thing I do every year. Go to bed early! DH and I have been married 33 years and have never gone out on New Year's Eve. We have no desire to, never have. When I did work the evening shift I hated the thought of having to drive home with so many out partying and drinking. Saw many an accident too. I think I was the first designated driver way back when I was a teenager. DMom and DDad liked to go out on New Years Eve and I would drive them to their party and pick them up too. This was years before the was a designated driver program. Best program around. To bad more bars didn't give the designated driver free tea, coffee, or what ever their non-alcoholic drink was for the entire evening.

When we lived in Calgary the first year, they had a huge car wreck placed on the front yard of a funeral home. It was meant to give you a real jolt, and it did. Gave you chills to see it. My kids never forgot that and neither did I. It is zero tolerance here for drinking and driving so everyone just stays put. MaryW

We will be doing the same thing since we do every year since we got married 3 years ago. Watch Dick Clark, and marvel about how he doesnt look as old as he MUST be, then I usually have to wake up DH to give him New Years kiss. I always work on New Years day at 10am. It is a very busy inventory day. Happy New Year to EVERYONE!!

Hubby and I have tickets to a hockey game for New Years eve - geez, typical Canadians or what!!! We don't drink alcohol or smoke so going to some smokey dance hall is not for us at all - although our county is now smoke free but still not for us. We're just not party animals and loud music triggers painful spasms for me (TN and HFP) so that would count me out even if I did want to go. We usually stay overnight on New Year's eve when there is a game that night to avoid the drunks but I think we are chancing it this time. The police have really been good about road checks and drinking and driving has drastically been reduced, but not eliminated unfortunately. We are off Friday to Hamilton/Dundas to finally celebrate Christmas with all my dtrs, sons-IL, and grandkids, etc. We are staying there overnight so we opted not to stay out New Years eve too. To "talking head" good for you for your idea about a dinner party and letting kids come too. My oldest dtr does this too, although she has two kids too. None of my kids are real party animals so they usually do the house party bit too. What ever everyone does, I hope you have a very Happy New Year. Violet I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

My daughter is still home for the holidays so we will probably all go to dinner and be home before the partiers are even be out. Probably watch a movie and drink a bottle of wine. I think my daughter is going to visit some old friends for the evening but she won't drink and drive. My girls grew up a grandmother short, thanks to a drunk driver, and know better. Dorothy |
