I want to sew a patch of t-shirt material onto another t-shirt. I know I should use a stretch stitch but I'm not sure which one, please help......

Hi Sheepy,

It is best to take some scraps of the fabrics that you are using and experiment until you get the effect you want.

Depending on the stretchiness of the fabrics, you may have to ease presser foot pressure(if possible with your machine), and play with the tension a little.

Also, don't forget to use an appropriate needle, one for use with knits.

Hope this helps.
Take care,
Donna

hi sheepy

wherabouts on the t-shirt is the patch? if the area isn't going to stretch much, you might get away with just a normal straight stitch...

Sheepy......I would use a zig-zag stitch but make it the smallest zig-zag you can width wise, where it almost looks like a straight stitch. if you're only sewing on patches and it doesn't have to be a real seam, you should be OK....Ree

I would try using some stabilizer with the knit fabric so it holds its shape during stitching. Another way is to sew around the applique first to stabilize the edge, steam it back into shape if it stretches and gets wavy-edged during this stitching. This will also tell you how it will behave going through the presser foot.
