I'm a quilter -- I've made exactly one clothing item -- it was in my 8th grade sewing class, I made a sweatshirt. It didn't turn out too bad, and I wore it for years. However, I am still traumatized by the curved sewing -- I HATE arm holes! My daughter is in preschool, she needs to "wear" her favorite animal in three weeks for sharing day. She wants a froggy dress. Easier said than done. She cannot be happy (we went shopping online, and although she's 4 she's got very definite opinions on what she likes) with a premade shirt or dress. I found fabric online that she loves, so I'm thinking of making her a simple jumper type dress out of this fabric. How "hard" is a basic jumper and do I HAVE to do buttons or zippers?! |

There are a lot of simple patterns out there without buttons or zippers. I wish I could give you #s but it has been a long time since I sewed for a little girl. Look for a pattern with a bodice. I think the lined bodice ones are a lot easier than the smaller facings. If you have more Questions just ask. Barb Barb

Go to www.sewingpatterns.com and look at this jumper/dress. It is very simple and you could do one in a crazy quilt design for her later. Put 6208 in the search box. It should come up with a New Look jumper pattern. http://www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/searchindex.cgi These patterns are available at Walmart. |

Hi Shari- I just love to make super simple jumpers for my daughter. I've been doing it since she was just 2, now she is 6. I love Butterick #5562. It has shorts, a jumper, and a jumper top. I modified the pattern to use only 4 pieces for the jumper. Front Front facing Back Back facing When the pattern tells you to "cut 2" just put it on a fold and cut one. Just remember to do the same thing with the facings too. Very easy. Your daughter will love it. you can e-mail me privately if you need more help. <email address removed for privacy> Danelle in Tri-Cities Washington

Thanks ladies! I'll be making a voyage to Wal-Mart after I pick up my daughter at preschool -- I'll let you know what I come home with! |
