ok I am new to sewing again- been out of the loop for quite some time besides some very simple type projects- I am wondering if my new machine is right for me? I knew I wanted many functions, I want to be able to sew patterns, as well as be able to do some general craft sewing on my machine- I am also very interested in learning how to do quilt blocks- all types! Would also love to be able to embroider but I don't have an embroidering machine-YET! I used to have a Tailor Machine which is a mirror of a Singer- I rarely used it as being a novice again- I was a bit overwhelmed and at the time was going through Finals in school (I am a returning full time student) I sold it and because I kept (whining) about wanting to sew again- my husband bought me this one for Christmas- He bought what he could afford at the time but it appears to be a great machine- I haven't opened it yet because we are moving soon but can anyone help me with what I will be able to do on my machine, if it will cover everything I want to do, and if I should maybe look into something in a different brand? Another reason I haven't opened- just in case I should exchange it- (Also got loads of gift cards to JoAnn's for Christmas!!) I appreciate anyone being able to help me- Hope to be a regular at this board ~Luv~ ~})i({~ ~})i({~

There is only one way to find out if a machine is right for you and the type of sewing you do and that is to use it. I am not familiar with your particular model, but if it has some basic stitches on it, it will do whatever you need it to do. A lot of bells and whistles are just that and are not necessities. |

Sewserious, thx- didn't know if this was specialist board or just regular members answering- my machine is a free arm, 21 stitches and 40 stitch finction, comes with a buttonhole foot, zipper foot, 1/4 quilting foot, button sewing foot, twin needle pack, darning plate, and quite a few other sewing accessories- Yes it probably ahs more bells and whistles than I need to start out but I don't plan on buying a new machine every year- want to make sure that this one has all that I should need for quite some time- OR if there is one out there similar... is a different brand better? this one has a 25 year warranty- haven't read over to see what all it covers yet though- I imagine at least the major components- will have to read up on it soon- I am not sure what else I can say about it- for less than $200- it seems to be a great machine the stitches are categorized as garment construction, decorative, and quilting stitches- I am just wondering if anyone else uses a brother- their experience- and if anyone else would suggest a different machine and why?- Also money is not the issue- He just happened to find this on sale and also doesn't know the difference in machines- I think he did a good job in finding it for what it has- am I right? ~})i({~ ~})i({~

Sounds like a good one to me! I have heard good things about Brother machines. I would hold onto it and use it. For no more than it cost, you could trade up in a few years if you wanted, but somehow, I don't think you'll need too! |

Thx so much again! I was just needing some reassurance on that- I have never owned a brother- and since I am just getting back into it- AND plan to get into it heavy- I was wanting to make sure I had quite a few things I could explore with it! Thx and very nice meeting ya! ~Luv~ ~})i({~ ~})i({~

I had a very basic Brother ( straight stitch, zizgzag, 4 step buttonhole) and it has sewed me through everything I needed at the time ( thought he buttonholes drove me mad). My desires expanded and I wanted to get more into machine quilting so I moved on to a Janome. The Jones/Brother is being sold on to a 17 year old interested in garment making. The new brothers look great, but were more expensive here than the Janome.
love and kisses, Jan
